Awful Algae

For the last few weeks I have put the lights on at 5am when I get up then switch them off at 8am when I leave the house. I get home at approx 4pm & switch them on again then turn them off at around 9.30pm. Will try & get some RO water (if I can talk someone into going to the LFS) & see how that goes. Bloozoo, do you use the nitrate sponge in your filter? Thanks for your help & support everyone. Its good to know people care.

Nope - I don't have a nitrate sponge. I have two huge amazon swords in the tank, so that helps somewhat I think. I also have a large eheim external filter (removed the Juwel Internal) and my tank is not overstocked.
Must add though, that since I increased my filtration, the algae reduced a lot. I used to have mild algae growth on the glass, but since the new filter's been running for a few months now, there's very little.
