So heres the thing,I have been having a pretty big pond snail outbreak and I am wondering if a assasin snail would deal with this problem
Tank details:10 gallon it is cycled been cycled for more than a year now.
Stock:1 cory catfish (He has been perfectly fine playing with the tetras.)
7 Neons
1 mystery snail(Gets attacked my snails)
And live plants.
One more thing I probaly will be getting 3 more neons soon and I would probaly only get one assasin.

Snails are a good thing, and they are inevitable in a planted tank. If you reduce feeding, gradually their numbers will start to decline due to their depleted food source. Often introducing an animal to deal with a problem causes a host of other issues. I would just leave the snails and let them die off naturally. You can temporarily relocate your mystery snail while this occurs, although I have never seen/heard of a mystery snail being bothered by pond snails.

Well I have cut back on feedings and I know all that.I do appreciate the reminder,I just want to know will it be safe and ok?

What kind of decor do you have in your tank? I had two tanks with pond snail outbreaks. The 20 gallon I had to completely breakdown and clean. The ten gallon had guppies and the pond snails eventually died out in that because I think the guppies ate the eggs. In the 20 I also tried cutting back feedings to barely anything every other day. I smashed as many as I saw and nothing helped. So sorry guys, but just reducing feedings doesnt always help. Plus after all the research I did found that pond snails will attack each other and other snails, including assassin's, if they don't have enough to eat.

I have two pieces of driftwood on each side of the tank, plants, and a hut and crashed ship hidden by plants.

Why do you want them gone?

Water bottle with vegetables inside?

There waste gets everywhere with how many I have and so when I move something it all comes up.And I have tried the water bottle trick before.I also do regular gravel vacs and water changes every week

I never see my snail poop. I here people say that.

This is not really the snails, but the accumulation of detritus that will accumulate in the substrate.

Snails, these small ones, are your best friend in the aquarium. They eat organics, which includes the fish excrement, so it is broken down faster for the bacteria to deal with. This occurs primarily in the substrate.

I have hundreds of pond and Malaysian Livebearing snails in my tanks. I certainly do not overfeed, so I know this is simply taking care of the organics.

Assasin snails are not the best answer, especially as you live in the USA. There may be laws prohibiting the acquisition of Assasin snails in some states, or federally; I know this was being talked about a while back. The problem is that these Assasin snails get into the ecosystem, accidentally or deliberately doesn't matter, and they are know to decimate the natural snails, harming the ecosystem. I woould not go down this road, regardless of the snail issue.

Byron.

Live plants or plastic plants? Gravel as substrate? What I did to get rid of them in my 20 gallon...Total tank breakdown. I set the fish up in a couple of buckets with heaters(after I cleaned the one off really well and had a spare for 2nd bucket.) Drained most of the water out of the tank. The regular decor, driftwood, and the HOB filter(trashed media) I gave a huge salt bath to. Regular non iodized table salt. I mean I dumped a bunch in. The live plants, anubias is all I had I believe so I won't vouch how others will do, I gave an alum bath. I left a bit of water in the tank with the gravel and dumped a bunch of salt in there. I left all of this for a few good hours.

Then I actually threw the gravel away and switched to sand, but rinsing really well would be OK to...Out of the tank though. I took the tank itself and gave it a very good scrubbing with a fingernail brush(did this with decor and driftwood too) and made sure I got all the snail eggs away though the baths would have killed them.

CAUTION: THIS WILL KILL ALL YOUR GOOD BACTERIA!!!! However, I was desperate, I needed to move the tank to redo the flooring where it was at anyway, and I wanted to switch to playsand as substrate. I also monitored everything once I put it in its temporary home and I did have small ammonia and nitrite spikes and did a few daily water changes as needed. After all this though, no more pond snails!!

But this was a huge amount of work. It's not for the faint of heart. If you don't put enough salt or alum in the baths or let stuff soak long enough, or clean the tank good enough, it won't work. You miss even one egg and they will be back.

And again, this will kill your good bacteria! So make sure you have test kits available before you do the so you will be prepared to test daily and do water changes as needed!

Why do you want to kill them

This is my experience with so called pest snails.

I introduced them accidentally via new plants, soon the population exploded they were everywhere, I wanted to get rid of them using chemicals and Byron told me not to, So I left them alone it took a good 6 or more months but the population did settle once all the " food " was consumed.

Then I had a outbreak of Planaria and used a product called No Planaria, it worked but it also killed all my snails, apparently the stuff is fish and shrimp safe but not so snail safe.

Once the No Planaria was out of the system I reintroduced Malaysian Trumpet snails, yes deliberately this time, at last count of the ones I can see there are about 70 of them in a 18 gallon tank, Every time I see a snail now I smile because those little buggers allow me to be a lazy fish keeper.

My tank maintenance consists of changing water and feeding my Betta and shrimp, I do not vacuum the substrate whats the point I have free tank cleaners.

I get excited when I see the eggs

So I have tossed the idea of getting an assasin snail.Instead just goanna get 2-3 cherry shrimp since this same tank used to have amano tank but they all died off after about a year cause of a ammonia spike.Which is resolved now.Instead I fed less and squished some on the glass and now the population is in check.

If your looking for rcs to breed 2 or 3 would not give you enough male to female ratio.

Id start with 10 as a minimum.
