Sure, they're not compatible species and can't produce offspring... but don't tell them that! ;)
Marie has been extremely friendly toward Aristotle lately and I was starting to suspect she might believe him to be her mate, but just today Aristotle started to reciprocate... love is in the air! (or water, as the case may be  )
Both fish are showing pre-spawning behaviour, but they've picked different spots... Marie is busily clearing off her rock, and Aristotle is trying to dig a hole right through the hill in the middle of the tank. They've been sticking extremely close together. I actually tried to get a shot of each one individually, but the other would always move into the frame before the shutter could go off!

All this is exciting, but the best part is that their colours are absolutely stunning right now!! I just had to snag a few picks to share :)

My hand included for size reference :p

They're looking lovely! :hyper:

Their colours look great in that second-to-last shot. Is Aristotle the Oscar?

Aristotle is an oscar and Marie is a midas hybrid (probably midas x sweetheart blood parrot, because she was sold as a sweetheart blood parrot and has no tail)

Whoa, I know they can't spawn but they would produce VERY agro fry.

Haha, that they would. So far I've been lucky with these two and they're getting along great (ahem... needless to say! :*) )

I didn't? *lol*
Aristotle is/was a philosopher; pupil of Plato.
I just like interesting names that have meaning for me. For example, my other fish have names like Marquis (after the Marquis de Sade,) and Eligos (a demon)... Marie's full name is Marie Antoinette (French Queen.) My cat is named Circe, after the witch in the Odyssey who turned Odysseus's men into pigs.

And yeah, like I said, I think Marie is tailless because she's part sweetheart blood parrot... she was definitely born without a tail, and that's what she was being sold as. :dunno:
