Argos Play Sand, will This Be Alright For My Tank?

Thanks ,think i`ll go with Argos then ,as i want the lightest sand.

Haven't opened the Tesco stuff yet, changing over from gravel in a week or two, but the stuff that had spilt out another bag looked quite pale.

To be honest, I think even the lightest playsand will darken over time, and it can look different under different lighting. I don't think there's much between them all.

Rinse it well, and rinse it again, and let it settle as much as possible before turning the filter back on, and it will be fine.

Thanks for that Soybean. ,how long can i leave the filter off ,whilst sand is settling , before fish are harmed?

Sand only presents a problem to filters if their set up is so that water passes through the impeller before the media, even then it wont present a problem providing the sand is not disturbed.

I'm just about to wash some more Argos play sand for my juvi cory tanks :)

I have in in my main tank with no probs :good: see sig...

oh no ,have just bought tesco sand ,yours looks exactly the colour i`m after .

just done mine with Argos play sand. Its perfect and my filters have had no ill effect so far. I put a whole bag in a bucket and swished it around about 4/5 times for it to run clear. Its actually very clean to start with. So far, i highly recommend it.

Off topic but I love that forest of grassy stuff on the right of your tank, is it some sort of Valis?

Thanks Tizer ,your tank looks lovely ,how many 15kg bags did you use for your tank ,i`m just wondering whether one will be enough for my 110l?

One bag should be bang on for you, when I looked it up (assuming I found the correct answer!) it was 1lb per gallon, which worked out at about 10kg for my 94L tank. So 15kg should be just about right for yours

I just used half a bag in my 90 litre which is 60 cm / 2 foot long so i would imagine 1 bag would be about right yeah. Might as well get two bags while you are there if you can carry it. I always lose some when doing a vacuum.

is that the children's play sand? :) I've heard good things about it too, but am too scared to use it incase it clouds up my water for good! let us know how it goes x
