My tank is really cloudy, despite large daily water changes its not improved. Fish have started rubbing on things (dont show any sign of disease like spots or anything though apart from one fish looking like its gills are swollen). Im waiting for my new tester kit to arrive to check the stats but i wondered if you had any ideas as to what is going on or what i can do to help as i dont want my fish to suffer.

I recently changed to sand from gravel but the cloudiness is more green than white so i dont think its that. Ive altered the filter output to try to oxygenate the water more and ordered some more live plants to try to help. Im feeding them less and having the lights on for less. I just dont know whats going on. Help :-(

ok you say its of a greenish colour?
did you cycle the tank before adding fish?
wheres the tank located?near to a window?
i would say by the sounds of it you have a algae bloom, i had the same prob once and i rem it by moving the tank away from the window and added green away which i got from my local fish shop<it clumps the algae together which inturn it either sinks to bottom or gets sucked up by the filter :good:

what fish do you have in this tank and how are the measurments?

Cycled before adding fish. It is near a window but i have a curtain closed so its not in direct sunlight. Its 240 litres and has guppies, platies, mollies, corydoras, harlequin rasboras, glowlight tetras, cherry barbs and 2 bristlenose plecs. x

We need to look at your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Flicking and swollen red gills can be due to bad water quality so need to rule it out first.
