We have decided to give a home to a common pleco from a friend, he's been hurt where he is :( anyway, i ripped apart our old shell cave and made a much bigger one which is going to be perfect for the common pleco, and i put it in the tank this evening once it was dry so that i could make sure it didn't fall apart our anything. Well i just looked in there and our clown pleco has decided he wants the new cave for himself, despite never going in there before... so what i really need to know is what is the best way of adding the common to the tank? Will the clown get territorial of the cave? Will it cause a fight? I want to avoid stressing the common out as he's already been through the mill bless him, but i also don't want to upset the clown. He's arriving in the morning so any help you could give me before then would be great.. especially on the best way to introduce him to the tank considering the tank he is in at the moment isn't looking great water quality wise. Thanks :)

Yes they are.

How long do you intend on keeping it?

The size differential should mean the common will win any battle.

at the moment we'll keep him til he gets bigger and then either up the tank size or move him to mil's house in her 300+litre :)

The clown has actually now slunk back to his wood lol, greedy boy doesnt want to be away from it so i dont think we'll have any fights now.

is acclimating a pleco the same as ay other fish? judging by the state of the tak in the pic i will probably test the water in whatever he came in to see quite how bad it is and then add him to a bucket and add a cupful of our water every 5-10 mins?
