I'll have a go. I do not have your filter so this is more generic.
A filter will have a hose that goes to a spray bar or a nozzle of some kind where it returns to the tank. A spray bar is a long tube with a row of holes drilled along its length. The most common way to set up a spray bar is to position it along just under the surface of the water with the holes pointing out into the main area of the tank. The inlet side of a canister is usually a long tube that reaches most of the way to the bottom of the tank. The end of that tube usually has a cage looking thing on it that keeps adult fish from being sucked into the filter. Hoses should not be left long enough to get big loops and curves in them but also should not be cut so short that they are straight. Instead they are usually trimmed to a length that leaves the tubes a bit loose when they are in place without being draped in big loops.
