whats required for breeding them and would it matter that they are all different sizes

The snail are like everything else. They need to be in good condition to breed. The other thing that few typical fishkeepers have is some space above the water line. Mystery snails / apple snails will lay their eggs above the water line and the eggs must stay out of the water in order to hatch. Another thing that the pomacea need that common pond snails do not need is a mate. The common pond snails are hermaphroditic so no need to worry about gender on them. Apple snails are males and females. Unless you have both ... well you know that. Snails will be in their best condition if they get frequent feedings of fresh vegetables that are also high in calcium. They love almost any vegetables that you would eat but the greens with higher calcium are also good for their shells. At about 3/4 inch diameter, they are big enough to breed. At high temperatures they will mature faster but wil also die quicker. Everything about their life cycle will speed up.

The water quaility i believe to be good what veg do you recomend the snails are about 1.5" 1.5" and 3/4" there is about 3/4" of space above the water line temp is about 28 i think. the tank only contains two platies at the moment who are not bothering the sudden outbreak of ramshorn snails.

I have a tank with just apple snails and cherry shrimps, they both seem to compliment each other and eat everything put into the tank.

Got 2 sponge filters to deal with the bio load that the snails create and do 2 1/3 water changes a week especially as I have so many baby snails right now.

I feed mine both flake food (to help the shrimps keep their colour up) and also brocolli, courgette, cucumber and sweet potato.

No heater in this tank as it is in my fishhouse and also the tank has it's own light so that provides heat as well.

Temp of the tank is 25c or slightly less as night.

PH is around 6.7 and I up the calcium by using Seachem Liquid Calcium and also add a touch of Seachem Iodine to the water changes to help with their shells.

I also have some cuttlefish bones sitting on the bottom of the tank for the young snails to munch on.

They must be happy cause in the last month I've had at least 5 lots of eggs laid and some are hatching out today as I type

ugh dont remind me. i did a project at school w/ some type of small snail, maybe apple snails, dunno, and mosquito fish. the snails laid eggs on the plants and i brought the fish and plants home and put them in my aquarium, then lots o snails. then again maybe it wasnt apple snails cuz Oldman47 said they lay eggs ABOVE the water line. hmm..... ill look in 2 that. -heart  , ally86ozzy

those wouldn't have been apple snails they would have been the normal black/brown snails you had then, they don't need male/female so can produce eggs as and when they want.

when measuring do you measure width or lenght as they can grow to 1.5" diameter is that long or wide

Going to try for blue ones as well as the golden

How long should mating and laying take once they move in together

A horny male won't care about the size of the snail he's mating with. There needs to be room above the water line for the female to crawl out of the water and lay her eggs. I would leave at least a 2 inch space with snails as big as yours.
Pond snails lay eggs in a gelatinous looking mass under the water. Apple snails lay eggs in a compact lump of eggs above the waterline. There are sites devoted to snails where people who frequently breed snails hang out. They have techniques to get more young snails than you might get if you just leave things alone. Places like applesnail.net . They are much more expert at this stuff than I am.
