Hi all

I would really like a dwarf cichlid pair, I am looking at rams but i think they can still be a bit temperamental with bettas?

They would go in a 125ltr rio with 10 female bettas, julii corys and khuli loaches, I'm trying to weigh my options out as i am starting to really like dwarf cichlids.

what would you recommend as a better Apistogramma to house with the above?

thanks

Apistogramma Cacatouides

Absolutely stunning fish. Also comes in different variants like double red, triple red. Magnificent fish. Easy to breed to ;)

Another favourite of mine being; Apistogramma Hongsloi

been looking at the Cacatouides and decided i want lol

are there any breeders in the uk, i could go to?

The majority of reports of dwarf cichlids would probably be with people mixing male bettas with rams so it would perhaps produce a few unreliable sources on the net so just something to consider.

Ive not kept female bettas for a few years now and I never mixed mine with anything just had a nice group of 5 red and white females but if I remember they stayed mainly in the upper levels? But went all over as well but that was in a smaller tank than we are dealing with here.

Im trying to think of dwarfs that stake out territories and stick around them but still nice to look at so you avoid any mid water clashes but at the same time I dont want them to hide because they are scared of the bettas like the laetacaras and nannacaras probably would be. So I think I am going to agree with you and say apistos would be best and go for the more bolshy species rather than the reclusives like the pandas perhaps. So I would probably say the Cacatuoides would be a good bet :)

Most decent LFS will probably stock Cacatuoides, ring around a few and I'm sure you'd find some

i've just found some double red pairs, purchased 1 male and 2 females for £10 p&p £9......really excited!

I take iti will need a low cave for them too

Yep, apistos love caves... they don't even need to be all that big, the hole for them doesn't need to be all that big either.

would these be ok for them?

ebay link

i have ordered a bigger one but want smaller ones, for extra coverage.

I'm going down the local garden center this week to buy some slate and will brake it into pieces for the tank.

A bigger coconut cave would be better or maybe an upside down pot with a hole in the side they just look like tubes

yep, I use a terracota pot for my female HRP, see laid eggs in there...try to find the smallest terracota pot from the house or a garden centre you can find, it will be perfect and cheap
