Api Master Test Kit Problem

So I'm curious if it's just me or if this is actually a flaw in the pH measurement for the API Master Freshwater Test Kit.
I just got two rams for my tank, and my well water has a very high pH so I needed to bring it down for the rams' health. It started at around 7.6. I added maylasian driftwood and peat moss, but it only brought it down to a 7.4.
I decided to purchase a 4-gallon jug of water that had a pH of around 6 and slowly add it to the tank each day until my pH progressively dropped to its appropriate level.
Well, I've added 5 gallons already (to my 20 gallon tank) on top of all the pH reducers.

My Master Test Kit says that my pH is still at 7.5. However, I found an old Tetra 5-in-1 test strip that I decided to use just to double-check my pH results. The test strip says my pH is 5.5!!!

I'm not quite sure what's going on...but does anyone else have experience with inaccurate or disagreeing pH measurements from API and Tetra kits? I'd love to hear some thoughts...

Hi mate a few things to check I made this mistake, I bought my api kit from fleabay and it was out of date and this had an effect on all of the tests in the kit, however liquid tests are better than the strip one's which im sure you know, but check the date of the whole kit mine was out by 2 years the strip might have a shelf life to and give a wrong reading.

I've had 2 API kits from different vendors with valid lot numbers and they were both inaccurate. In my opinion API is mass produced junk. Salifert brand, unless you're willing to pay for a Seneye.
