Above is a photo of one of my most recent purchases.

I've kept Pentazona (Five Banded) Barbs for some time and had a happy little shoal of 6 of them in my 200 litre tank. When I saw these dwarf barbs advertised as Indian Green Barbs in my local fish shop I couldn't resist picking up a small shoal.

I now have 6 of them in with my Pentazonas and they are shoaling nicely together but still seem to be able to distinguish their own species.

The two species are similar in size and seemingly in nature, both are generally shy when added to a new tank but soon become hardy and braver when kept in a well balanced community tank. Both species also seem very fond of well planted tanks and prefer dimmer lighting.

I can find very little information on this species online, I was thinking of bringing my research together in the species list part of the forum if there is enough interest.

I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience of these fish as I had not seen them before. I would love to breed them and was wondering if my mixing of the species may make this more difficult.

I find it really interesting that they seem so similar and yet one species is from Indonesia and the other from India.

Here are some quick pictures of the mixed shoals - photos really don't do them justice, very pretty little fish!
