its a Potamotrygon orbygini orReticulatus as t was advertised
Its 13 inches long nose to tail with body bout 8 inches long, its seems to be a male as it has claspers
its already taken food that I put in for my eel it took prawn

as soon as he went in he was [estered by my 4 reedfish so they;re in another tank now

I;ve read loads of ifo bout them o here monster fishkeepers etc but would lik to speak to anon who is keepin these fish now for some pointers

I change about 40 per cent of my tank water every week anyway as I understand that water quality is vital
what do people feed bar prawns lancefish etc

any other problem tankmates? I planned to put my L25 SCARLETT in there. Good idea or not

what is a signof a healthy ray? this ones active and eat within minutes of being put in new tank

I should add that I testd my water last night and the results were
p.h 6.4
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
nitrate 40

I'll obviously need to reduce the nitrate but I know I can increase the water changes

Looking t what I have read aout these fish they require regular food which is different to the way I feed now. How often do you guys feed yours because I don;t want to overfeed

Quick comments on these tankmates who I have have in either this tank or others

BGK
Oscars
L25
Reedfish
Ornate Bichir
Fire Eel
Silver Dollars
Clown Knife
Flagtail - already asked on here bout him

As it happens I have buyers for some of the above

Congratulations mate, iam not sure but would not think the plec would be a good idea as they like to suck on slime coats and theres alot of area on a ray to suck on, also flagtails so i hear are similar, not sure about others, ask over on mfk, there are alot of breeders over there and also alot of folk dedicated to keeping rays..

cheers you two , I didn;t get him home till after midnight last night, got a flat tyre 55 miles from home in a dark country road in the pouring rain with a jack that didn;t work!!!lol so didn;t get too much chance to look, had a brief look on MFK but will spend tonight asking lots of quiestions

photos soon when hes more settled although he eat last night and this morning

hehe weather was awful last night, hope you had a triangle with you and a hiviz :shifty:

Cant wait to see pics...I know a breeder of rays in colombia, problem is hes on a fishing trip in the amazon for three months,so cant contact him,

no high viz and didn;t bother getting the triangle out!! silly me
the tyre had only been changed a couple of weeks before and the garage had really tightened the nuts on them, you can imagine my mood when I was getting soaked in the dark with a jack that didn;t work and a crappy wheel brace that I couldn't get a grip of!! lol he should be worth it though!!!

That sucks but i'm sure the journey will be worth it:) Last time i broke my alloy (don't ask how) i had no idea how to use a jack or if i had one. Had to get road side assistance out to change my wheel for a spare which id dint know i had either. Car maintannce is not my thing,.

just sold the silver dollars and flagail so they are out of the equation now anyway. quite sad to see the flagtail go but need to reduce stock now anyway now with less tanks

Had a neonate a few years back, like yours it loved prawns and the occasional treat of trout fillet cut into strips and the occasional river shrimp was never refused....guard all heaters well as they were b**gars for getting burned on them..good luck with this stunning fish and can't wait to see it's portrait up here.....
Ps most will tame down and hand feed very quickly...

With less tanks though the maintanence will be easier and it'll give you more time and money to make the ones you have lookat their best all the time.
