Any idea how to sex Angels ??

Hi,
I've got 2 angels and was just interested if they were males or females. I know they are hard to sex when they are small, but I've had mine awhile now and they have grown quite alot.
Any advice appreciated.

From those photos not possible. Look at the two fish, the difference in sex is determined by the angle from the ventral fins to the anal fin. This is the bit I can never remember, One sex has a steeper angle than the other, and I can never remember which is which. But I think the male fish has a steeper angle. If the two fish look the same then they will be the same sex.

Mature males have a more rounded forehead that is caused by a build up of fat and indicates the male has access to lots of food. Females don't develop this lump.

If they produce an ovipositor (breeding/ egg laying tube), the female has a shorter wider ovipositor and the male has a longer thinner ovipositor.

Looks like the angelfish in the pictures is a female. The males tend to have longer and forked fins. A visible bump on the forehead just above the eyes. Females have more of a sky slop forehead.

Please take that diagram and cut it up and throw it in the wastebasket, it is so wrong. It was put on the net by some 10 year old kid who looked at the only Angels he ever had spawn. And it has been distibuted by people who really know nothing about Angelfish. It is just wrong. The only way to sex Angels is to look at their breeding tubes. Anything else is just a guess. Even then it can be queationable at times.

I think alot of members would disagree with you. There are other methods of sexing angels than their breeding tubes, my method for one has worked for me for years

A friend of mine said he knew how to sex angelfish. You pick them up and shake them to see if they rattle. If they do, it's a boy.

Took a while to know for sure....but im guessing all the eggs are a give away.

I think I am going to need to rename one of my angels from Debussy and Bach to a more girly name lol
