this is my 2nd congensis, not pictured so far, I mentioned above, that it wasn’t doing as well… it appears to like the new light over this tank, it has marked improvement the last month, since the new light… this is also a 24 inch deep tank, so it’s also a big plant , though no emergent leaves so far… this is also a soft water, tropical temperature aquarium, and it’s been here going on 2 years… btw… this tank has silver dollars in it, and they have left it alone… so far anyway… maybe because of the over abundance of available pothos roots…

this is a close up of one clump of hastifolia, from the tank in the 2nd picture above… this one, was just tucked under the edge of a resin hollow log, and one of the fish in house keeping inside the hollow log must have edged it out… there are no weights on the plant, and this tank has an under gravel filter, so while the rhizomes are above the substrate, I suspect the roots have attached themselves into the substrate… again from above, almost no growth in close to 3 years, they are healthy and green though… there are tons of vines and peace lilies rooted in this tank, so maybe not enough fertilizer to grow aggressively??? but they have been perfect low maintenance plants in this tank…

this is that little white anubis barterli after a week in the tank, the pot finally showed up… I was also worried about cold bruising on some of the leaves, but the roots and rhizomes look healthy, so I have hopes for it… there is medium fine river gravel in the pot, and I’m hoping the pair of flag fish in this tank decide they like this little nest…

I was kind of disappointed, the other morning I saw 2 mature coffeefola leaves had been broken off the bunch… a couple fish were kind of beaten up worst end of it was the female flag fish… so I don’t know if active breeding or some other fight went on over night… but I left the leaves float around, and noticed this today… the stem actually looks like it’s starting to root… or rot… but maybe there is enough of the rhizome base left, on the stems, that they might root??? one is floating freely, and one is stuck to the filter intake right now, but both look similar… hoping they are rooting???

I’d have never guessed the dramatic change… I posted a picture of my 2nd congensis above… that had been surviving for close to a couple years, but not really thriving… a change of light seemed to help emensly and while this tank is full of plant eating silver dollars, and I see them grazing around the anubias, they are leaving the plant alone, and appear to be grazing the algae that was growing on the leaves… I need to scrape some algae off the glass, but the plant is looking the best it has for several years, in a few short weeks…

I'm amazed the silver dollars are ignoring it!
Whenever I've tried Anubias I've found that the new leaves are very tender and apparently irresistible to my fish!
The same tank had many other tender leaf plants such as hygro and ludwigia and none of them were touched. I never figured out which fish were eating the Anubias but when I put a net over them the plants grew well, however, as soon as I removed it they were immediately scoffed again!
I've still got a couple that are currently OK in a tiny tank with just some loaches and they seem to leave them alone.

this seems interesting…

this is my emergent congensis… water level needs topped of ( actually time for a water change ), and I noticed these roots forming on one of the stems… I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before… you???

that little white leaved barterli suffered from cold shipping, but has a couple new leaves popped out the last couple weeks…

that center piece coffeefola pictured above is getting a new larger leaf, so it seems to be growing well with the help of all the cleaner fish… ( visible going straight up on the left side of the plant )
