I was getting upset seeing my discus scratch themselves on the pointy funky wood i had in there, so it had to go! One of the 3 bits i had could be turned upside down (as suggested by a TFF member).
Next issue was the background plant. It kept getting all tangled etc, was super high maintinance with my set up, didnt look as good as i had hopped etc etc etc, so i took the decision to take that out too!
I then uprooted ALL the grass (yes, you read correctly!) as it was so muddy etc and i was fighting a loosing battle. I dunked it all into a bucket of water, then me and the other half spend a couple hours (while watching 'The Wedding') splitting it all up into little plants!
I then waited for the water to settle, and then replanted the grass. I have more grass arriving this week to fill in the gaps so that hopefully i can get a much denser carpet this time!
There is another benefit to this new set up..... LOADS more swimming space for my discus!
I have attached a photo of what i had in mind while doing this layout. But i have a slate cave for my plec who is arriving soon. Its going to go in the back right corner under the wood, then a slate path is going to come from there, through the middle where the red slate is just now. That gives my discus a feeding ground too!!
But my questions...
You will see in the photo one discus is sitting facing the glass on the left. he sits there all day as he gets bullied by the other male. He eates at feeding time though. Then on the right you can see a blue discus hiding in the wood. She doesnt eat and never has eaten since i got her more than a week ago! She sometimes swims with the others, and other times sits on her own. She has never been interested in food though. Is this something to worry about? Can i help them somehow?!

I was unsure as i was throwing all the money (plants and wood) out the tank, but i am sure once the grass grows back to its prime (i cut is down big time before replanting) it will look good!
