The problem is the fin rot was a secondary problem. The treatment ideas I was given elsewhere covers both bases - bacterial (salt) and fungal/parasitic (Protozin). I've got to say the biggest improvement was before we even added the salt, so obviously Protozin was the med to use.
More news - Beep is recovering fantastically, his fins are growing back and he's got them out and open all the time - he's been like that yesterday and today so I think he's recovered. Neo and Marilyn are opening their fins more, not quite all the time though. Neo looks miles stronger, Marilyn isn't quite as strong but has still improved!
Thanks Wilder. If that happens then it'll be obvious it's down to poor breeding etc, and I'll euthanise them rather than them having a life of constant medicating. But for the minute let's focus on the positive.
You've got me worried now. I don't want to subject these angels to a life of constant medication. Can I ask what happened with the angels you saw this happen with?
No it's okay - you've got the wrong end of the stick. This finrot is secondary to a problem that is common to angels according to the people helping me. Hence treating with both Protozin and salt to combat both sides of things (which is the only treatment regime to have worked for those who have had the same experience as me). They're recovering, so it's obviously working.
Thanks Wilder, I really do appreciate the amount of time and effort you've put into advising us.
TBH if this doesn't work, to me it just shows how weak this "line" of angels are. Apparently Kois are very susceptible to disease - had I known this (my own fault) I wouldn't have put us through the heartache of buying them and watching them get ill and die None of my other fish have been ill at all which would suggest to me that this is a problem with them only - hence me asking what your experiences were with similar cases and the outcomes. If these fish get ill repeatedly the only kind thing I can do is euthanise them. They've got a chance now to recover, and if they stay healthy that's the best. If they don't then I'll have to call it a day and start again in the future.
We have yt more improvement today in Beep and Neo. Marilyn still looks pretty bad but is active and eating. Don't know what to do for the best with her as we've only got one treatment left today to finish the course, but I would feel bad about euthanising her while she's eating and active.
Neo and Beep are now pretty much recovered, both are much happier, fins out, and their fins are growing back. Marilyn's still eating but her fins are still a bit clamped and she's still stressy looking. None are fluffy or slimey now.
