Angel Problem - *update* Fin Rot, Please Help

Thanks Tolak. I'm not sure if it is columnaris, because there is no involvement of the mouth, just tatty fins and this red line around the edge of the all white blusher. The main symptom is the fin problem. there aren't any other infected fish either, just the angels.

Is it worth trying the Tetra stuff?

Edit: Will try and get pics and read more thoroughly - haven't just woken up, but definitely need more coffee *lmao*.

Right, I hope you lot can advise me (don't know if this is worthy of another thread, but I'll stick it here for now).

Tetra Medica General Tonic - methylene blue.

This is what the LFS sold me. However, it mentions on the bottle it can effect plant growth, and having done a search I've found out Methylene Blue will ruin my filter bacteria.

Is this right? If so, I'm going to go ape at the LFS *lol*.

OK, sorry to post again, I'm just really worried.

I've decided to return that Tetra General Tonic - I can't believe they sold us it.

My sister has Pimafix which has been recommended on another board. I used King British General Tonic (which is just salts as far as I can tell) last night - do I need to do a water change before I use Pimafix and if so, how much?

I'm really sorry for replying to myself over and over, I just don't want to lose these fish and don't seem to be getting far when it comes to UK advice.

PS: If a mod sees this before CFc reads his PMs and shifts this, can you please, please, please shift this to Emergencies?

Where the red on the fish, also check to see you can see any red pin pricks, is the red on the edge of the tail, as you could be dealing with septicemia.

No, the red has been written off already as normal markings (potentially stress related). They're not pinpricks. It's a red perimeter to the whole of the body of the completely white one.

TBH I think if the Pimafix doesn't sort it, I'm going to have to euthanise them, they're obviously badly bred and will probably be problematic should I even manage to fix this problem.

Thanks Wilder, I really appreciate your help (both today and the last time) in this. Sadly I can't take them out of this tank, unless it is to euthanise. I was hoping there would be an alternative, but I'll stick to the plan of trying Pimafix as a last resort and euthanising if it doesn't help.

Ok, that med is strong and it will wipe the bacteria colony out, but if you don't have anywhere to issolate them i understand, good luck, fingers crossed.

Right, three are still doing okayish, the last one is still very weak.

I didn't go ahead with the Pimafix, as I really don't want to risk that or Melafix. Is there anything I could potentially use as a "dip" in a bucket or something? Or am I clutching at straws now?

Sorry for replying to myself again. Couple more questions:

Furanol - will that kill off the filter bacteria?

What about Protozin by Waterlife - that's been recommended elsewhere?

They're basically the two meds other than Pimfix/Melafix (which I won't risk) that have been recommended. However, apparently salt is an option, but I want to confirm whether or not that can be used in a planted tank with plecs and cories? Otherwise is a salt dip an option? If so how do I do it?

If anyone can help I'd much appreciate it.

Never mind - OH has bought some Protozin and we're euthanising the poorliest angel later before we treat the tank, when my son (who's fish it is) isn't loitering about. :-(

Sorry about the angel, finrot i would of gone im with two meds if it's really bad, anti finrot and fungus med by interpet, plus anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Too late now *lol* - was recommended Protozin so have dosed with that. Couldn't bring myself to euthanise the poorliest as he perked up a bit, so we're giving him the evening/night to make sure it's the right thing to do.

Tomorrow we're adding a 1% solution of salt as a backup.

Thanks for your help Wilder.
