since most puffers are brackishwater fish, how do u for instance put otocinclus in with them??? i thought cats hate salt (even though mine dont mind)...do the fw fish do fine in brackish or are they actual brackish water varieties?

hi flyhockey1037,
I keep our puffer in his own tank(no tankmates). Did you post this in the Catfish Cradle forum or Oddballs Institute forum? I'm sure folks keep otos and puffers together.

Hi Fly :D

There are quite a few FW Puffer species, I keep Ottos in with my Dwarf and South American puffers and they do great. You are correct that otto's don't do well in salt. For BW puffers you are more limited for tankmates. Some of the Gobies do well (like Bumblebee's), and Chromides are also a common tankmate, but for bottom feeders for BW I have no idea, maybe some type of snail, but I doubt it. Shrimp would work....until they were eaten.

Edit: For eating algae your best bet for BW would probably be Mollies.
