Hey guys,

Well having quite an issue here- it doesn't cause that much of a problem, but it's not going to go away by itself!
One day about 2 months ago my PC was ransacked by viruses and it took a lot of work to get rid of them. However, since then I have been having problems with the PC running slow. It's Windows Vista by the way. I was using Spybot S+D for my virus removal. For many years when I have done checks I've always got Win32.agent virus but Spybot can never remove 5 of the files out of the 32 files on the computer, however the PC is always fine. However after this recent spate of viruses I also have very regular Internet Explorer Script Error pop-ups, often with a URL to a porn site (which I haven't visited) in the pop-up. The internet also regularly crashes and when I'm on Facebook it will tell me I'm not logged in every minute or so and log me out! What's weird and freaky though is that when I'm connected to the internet, sometimes a weird clip of music, lasting seconds or minutes, will start playing! Sometimes it's film music (an Alton Towers advert started playing once!), or sometimes clips of sound effects. It's a bit freaky. I have no way of stopping these sounds, even closing my browsers does nothing... I recently got Norton Internet Security and did a scan which found and removed more viruses but I'm still getting the Script Errors and the music but it's faster... I wanted to uninstall IE7 but I can't because it's part of Vista. Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome also crash/freeze.

What can I do!? Thankyou to anyone who helps!

Back up any files, format and reinstall your OS. And go for something other than vista because it's poop! ;)

Also, install a better antivirus program!

Thanks guys, won't be able to get a new software because the free ones are usually rubbish and can't afford a proper program. Can't really get rid of Vista either- yes I agree it's a bit cr*p but it's already on the laptop. Shall back up my files and restore everything and try that! Cheers for your help :)

grab MB and anti vir all free and not "rubbish" as you suggest

what i did when that happened was to destroy my sound drivers, download the virus creation lab and blitz the viruses with a virus attack which disables their function and completely reverses any damage and then destroys them. I then quickly uninstall the program before someone notices i downloaded from an illegal site and scans my pc remotely, sit back and smile as win xp whizzes past virus free and perfect! Also i would install process explorer from here... Process Explorer V 14.12 and use it to force a program shutdown on ie when it spazzes up. Thinking of it, it will also execute a shutdoen on chrome and mozilla.

Also install avg free, i set it up to find viruses and transfer them to a vault on an encryped sector of my hard drive called 'Auschwitz' where i torture the viruses till they are deleted by opening them in safe mode with notepad and deleting parts of their script!

Life as a virus hacker is funnnn!!!!!

I use ultimate boot CD. Download it for free and burn it too a disk the BOOT the computer from the disk and work with it from there. Works great on my laptop when ever it has a problem and also for fixing my friend's computers.

There might be an alternative if you don't want to reimage as of yet;

Try a "system resotre". If you perform regular Windows Updates or make major software changes, Windows will generally create restore points (snapshots) of your machine.
You can use snapshots to restore your machines settings (will change registry files and etc.. but generally shouldn't affect any documents/music etc..) to a last known working configuration.

Yeah, it's normally a long shot, but it's always worth trying because it'd only take about 10 minutes to perform.
I always prefer a reimage because I make regular backups.
