Ammonia

I very cleaverly knocked a small half full tub of fish food in to the tank. I've run the gravel vac round a couple of times and have got as much out the tank as possible. The ammonia level was dealt with by water changes but creeps up whilst i'm at work. If i were to use prime as a detoxifier do i dose for the amount of ammonia or the volume of the tank?

If your ammonia is still rising and theres no fish food left in there, did you cycle your tank?

Dose for the volume of the tank water.

Yes the tank returned double zeros for a week before I stocked the tank and has been stable for 3 months.

Seachem says you case dose up to 5x the regular dose (based on water volume) in an ammonia emergency, but it's not a permanent solution. It doesn't remove the ammonia, it just temporarily binds it to make it non-toxic. Water changes are going to be the only right way to combat your problem.
