Hey!!

I am Tom and i am new to the forum :)

So i have got a fish tank that is two years old. I had 5 fishes in it , a Black Moor goldfish, 2 catfish, 2 angelfish . My Black moor fish died, so i updated my tank .

About my tank :

20 US gallons (60 liters )
Filter: Vita tech 300
Air pump : Elite799 (with one air stone)
2 plants, a rock and a tree.
Temperature now : 80 degrees (Fahrenheit )
heater : Vita tech 50 temp set to 77 f

Fishes [new]
One new black moor,
the two old angelfish
Two old catfish
three new clown loaches
two new dwarf gouramis

Am i doing everything right ? I just want to make sure my fish are OK. Btw, i feed them with flake.

cheers tom

Hi Tom, I believe Black Moors, angelfish and clown loaches are too big for a 60 litre tank. Though I'll let someone with more experience give you advice. Good luck with the tank!

MY tank is 11x24x12 .( inches ) I think my black moor is going to die again, today he got attacked by my bigger angel fish .

Hello Tom & welcome.

I am going to be blunt here,

Anglefish are too big for that tank, i have a 180 litre with just one Angel in it for this reason.

Clown loaches are far far too big for that tank, they are big beefy fellows.

The Blackmore is too big for that tank & are is tropical.

What catfish do you have, most will get far too big for that tank?

The fish from you stocklist that are suitable are you gouramis & I am no expert on them so am not sure.

I suggest you take all of the big fellows back to the lFS then do some research into what you would like in the tank. Make a stocklist & post it on here. We will help you get suitable fish for your tank.

They wont take my big fish back , i have tried with other fish. It is because they could have bacterias etc.

so if i bought a new tank- what size would that have to bee ?

Hmm, not to happy with your lfs, after all the fish they sell you could have "bacterias etc".

Try a different LFS, or your local zoo/aquarium, they will usualy take big fish quite happily.

With 2 Angelfish. 2 unknown catfish (could be bristle nosed but then again could be sailfins) & three clown loaches you are looking at a massive tank, probably in the range of 300 litres at least.

My fish aren't that big, the full length of the angelfish is only 5 inch. and they are the biggest fish in the aquarium .
Hopefully, in one year i COULD get them a huge tank, 500 l , 300 etc.
I currently can't afford anything else for them .

I am really sorry for them - but i bought them for like 30$ per fish , (my angel fishes) and they are only 5 months old and close to reaching their maximum size - 6 inches. when i got them they were super tiny, like 2 inches or so ... in my area everyone is trying to sell their angel fishes (for 400$)and they aren't half the size mine!!!

What should i do ?

I agree, you really need to find a place to get those angels, loaches, the black moor and probably the catfish. They will simply grow far too big and outgrow your tank in under a year.
What type of gourami do you have? I could help you come up with a more suitable stocking that surrounds them, if you like :)

PLease research your fish size properly as angel fish get taller than 6"!
If kept in swaller tanks it will stunt their growth and result in early death.
You cant have fish planning to get a new tank in a year as they grow quicker than that
can you find a 2nd hand tank cheap near u?

Yes, this suggestion is headed in a possble good direction. If you find an affordable used tank (it would need to be the 30G minimum for angels or a bit larger but still be affordable and such that you might get by with your same equipment or a little more equipment) and use it for the angels and only have to worry about re-homing the loaches (I saw a loach the other day that would have broken out both ends of a ten gallon I think!) The angels would need at least 17" of height and 30 US gallons, this being pretty much the absolute minimum people get by with in a minimally healthy manner. The thing with fish like angels is that its not just whether they seem to "fit" the tank, the problem can be that the fish will go into stress behavior internally if it finds the water surface or the substrate too close to it - they are animals for which the environment is still a physical part of their day to day health much more than humans. Too close a surface or substrate can be seen by the fish as instinctively indicative of serious danger (birds diving, large bottom dwellers lurking.. all sorts of things can go into the millions of years of evolution that have shaped what their brains are telling them is essential to survive.) We hobbyists in a forum like this are just the carriers of the lore about what previous generations of fishkeepers have figured out about them, we can't change them as animals.
