Hi, at the moment have some fry of Altolamprologus Compressiceps "Sumbu Shell" or Dwarf Sumbus, they are like Altos but max out at less than 3", males will hug rocks and the much smaller females will use the shells, especially during spawning, I will be selling some of these fish on in the near future, I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in these very rare fish. Be nice in a Tanganyikan set up or even suitable as a pair in a small shel dweller tank. :good:
Just looking to generate some interest.... :good:

Look forward to feedback/comments :good:

:fish:

Would have been very interested had you not been at the other end of the country!

On another forum got a ton of folk in the States interested, bonkers
Wee bit far to deliver over there :good:

kiriyma, how much longer will it be before you can sex the youngsters?

I'm thinking doresy could perhaps buy the female juveniles and ideally a non-bloodline adult male from you via a livestock courier such as APC, so that he can start a genetically sound population in Hampshire.

Come next year, I'd love the idea of a small tank of Tanganyikan shell dwellers, with these Dwarf Sumbu being a close second to those Telmatochromis Temporalis "swell" that Kevin82 sold in the summer.

They are very slow growers so I reckon it's going to be another 6-8 weeks to be really sure, I have an idea just now going by size and shape and general behaviour. I have a single adult male, his female got trapped in her shell (not the usual one she used, now removed from tank) , so when not playing gooseberry with the pair of Sumbus he's hanging out with 2 Multifasciatus and an albino BN in there shellbed along with some rogue Sumbu fry that the Multies seem to have fostered

I think I would have the Dwarf Sumbu over the Telmat Temps, they are mighty nasty critters, I have heard of them taking on much bigger fish, when breeding have heard of them taking over Calvus and Julies etc, also one other owner had them and in the end landed up with a single male as he done in his tankmates and girlfriend, think I'd go for the peaceful option :good:

They max out about 3", I had one larger pair and one small pair, the smaller male seems to be the alpha, I lost the larger female, she had spawned with the small male and I have the fry, she was spawning with the larger male, he was guarding the shell but I think she got wedged on it somehow and I lost her  They are very peaceful, even when the 2 males are having a scrap they just swim backwards at each other, daft. The odd one spent most of the morning with the 2 Muties and a plec on the shellbed, really cool wee fish :good:

They do look so very tempting, especially after I surprisingly bought an Aqua One 620T off one of my delivery customers for a mere £20 yesterday... My better half is clueless about this purchase, as she was not in when I drove home with it, but let's just say my days are numbered when she does find out!

I think my only way out of this one is to stock it with fish for her, as she loves the likes of Diamond Tetra; Celestial Pearl Danios; Forktail Blue Eye Rainbows; Sawbwa Barb. I might even buy some of those Burmese Rosey Loaches that Aquajardin have it at the mo, that reach a mere 2.5cm (they really do look like a loach twist on Cherry Barbs, beautiful active fish). ;)

Those loaches sound very nice, something a bit different, I was LOL at the purchase of the new tank, my MRS found my shopping list for up and coming LFS splurge
