Alternatives To Hoods

I'm getting a clip-on lamp for my 25 ltr tank but I'm keeping the hood on (tank is too shallow to have a proper hood light (only 8 inches deep ... possible 6 if you count the substrae and water level) and just drilling holes in it to let the light through ... it's a fine line between clever and stupid .. I'll have to wait and see which one I am ;)

As for the filter (I didn't hear much talk about it since you mentioned it in your first post) but I've just bought a Fluval 1 filter off ebay for about 25 euro (total including p&p). Its nice and neat and it does tanks up to 45 litres.

I would saw something like that would word wonders for your tank.

With my betta tanks, I use photocopier film. Poke a few holes in it and lay them over some sort of beam and they work fine. And they are clear!

You could get a piece of plexiglass cut. I'm not sure how much that would be.

If you are going to use plexiglass use the thick kind. I used regular plexiglass to try to make a cover for a tank and it starts to warp over time curling up. I have heard that if you use the thick plexiglass it doesn't do this.

I gave up on making my own covers, its easier to just go buy a glass top to fit your tank. Even having someone cut glass for you doesn't work all the time. I had some glass cut (by a professional glass guy) and he didn't even get it to the specs I needed, it didn't fit!

Captain, can you post back with your solution when done please? I would like to know what you end up using.

My suggestions are also a condensation tray of some kind or plexiglass.
You can buy corrogated plastic sheets from most DIY stores and cut to size, altough you may have a problem with where the condensation drips to at the edges.
