Hey Guys! My new boy Alphie isnt well actually he hasnt been well since i bought him. Firstly when i first got him he was ok just not as happy as i'd expect he was moping around, then sunday he was really ill he was lying around and hanging near the top and even when youput your face there or anything he doesnt move. He must be feelign like rubbish as he barely moves, he has white spot. I know its white spot as ive had it in the past with goldfish. They were just on his finnage and tail but i now see a few on his front fins. Hes on a white spot med which started sunday and the next does is to be added on wednesday, hes not been eating hardly but tonight i just sprinkled a flake in the water and his tank is completely covered with a black skirt so hes less stressed, also i understand the cycle of a parasite and they cant live without light etc, also got some aquarium salt in there too. Just wanted to let you guys know anyway. Im not upset i didnt get a healthy betta, im upset that the store sold him as visibly healthy. Alphie will be treated with my best ability of care, if ive learnt anything from looking after fish these past 5 years its how to treat them. I intend to nurse him back to health, he doesnt deserve to suffer.

I hope he pulls through, I know you'll do your best :)

Try raising the temperature up a little bit. I've read that when treating a fish you should do that, but I wish you the best of luck treating him. I hope he gets better.

Aww! Hope Alphie feels better soon! I know you'll take good care of him.

I too have heard that he might want the temperature raised a little bit so you could give that a shot, Also keep that water crystal! Daily water changes will help him feel better I'm sure, not necassary, but he'd like it XD

good for you for doing the right stuff!
agreed to raise the temp if possible. not necessary but speeds the life cycle of the parasite. also increase aeration if possible with an airstone or bubbler.
if the meds are spread over several days, dont change the water in between doses. or else you dilute the meds. do a waterchange before adding next treatment.
luckily whitespot is easy to diagnose and cure. it is rarely fatal. sounds like you caught it early and are treating appropriately.
get well soon, Alphie :(
cheers

Thanks guys, im very hapyy because ive just and took the black material off his tank to find hes swimming about, he spits out any food given but apart from that i think hes feeling better. next treatment tomorrow :D

Aw sorry to hear he took an even more worse turn, but glad he has now more energy, keep being a great mum and hope he pulls through!

Great to hear some positive news, keep it up :)

His next treatment is tomorrow so just done a 10% water change for now, i can tell hes feeling and getting better as he finally ate a few flakes today! Also hes swimming around and hes alert, where as before when i went to the tank he wouldnt move but now hes like why you there! :good:

thats good news!
how about the ich? are the spots off him yet? if so keep treating for the full round. sometimes you need two rounds of treatment. try soaking his flakes in garlic juice. might tempt him to eat and is am immune boost.
sounds very promising tho with what you are already doing. keep it up and hopefully a full recovery is on the horizon.
cheers
