if your tank isnt too small or too big
you can use a rag to clean stuff
or a kitchen towel

Use a natural sponge, but very gently.

My lfs had sponges made specifically for cleaning algae off of acrylic tanks. Made by API, I think.

Agreed, just be sure to use the "original" type, the kitchen and bath ones contain detergents
