Can some one help answer, is the one on the left better or the right? Or should it be somewhere between those two?

Depending on what fish you have going in, I vote for the one on the right. Left is a little strong unless you want to put it in the back corner.

Id have the left, just as ornamental value as you don't need one in reality.

For me, I would choose the left one....
The right one has too little air bubbles and doesn't serve much purpose.

I usually like the longer type of airstone where it can cover bigger/wider areas,.
