Air Pump?

Hi all,

I am looking for a new Air pump ?

What one would you buy for a 60ltr and why?

hmm i dunno about all the different ones to be honest but i have a rena 50 i think it is, and thats in my 20 gallon but i used to have it in my small 4 gallon too. Nice and quiet cant really complain, an air pump is an air pump IMO you cant really go wrong even if you buy a cheapo one

why do you need an air pump? cant you just move the outflow of the filter towards the water surface as this will be better than an airpump, also cheaper

actually yeah he's right i do that too my fluval 3+ is in the back corner near the surface nozzle point to the back and that works just fine

(sorry for the minor hijack but it is related-honest!)
I have a fluval 3+, do you have the syphon above the waterline? Sucking air in, vortex style?

no the top of my fluval is about an inch below the surface and i dont use that thing where you can put that tiny funnel in to make bubbles, i find the flow of water gushing from the filter itself is enough for aeration.

Plus i find it too noisy when i use that thing, whatever its called lol

I've got that air diffuser thingy fitted to my filter which sometimes blows out air bubbles,
and sometimes not.
Can't quite figure out why not but when its running perfectly it does look good, and
doesn't make too much noise.
Also cheap - cost about £5 and fitted in about 30 secs.
But I do have the flow directed to the surface as well so hopefully making the best of both !

Yeah i suppose mine is loud because its in the room i sleep in PLUS i'm a very light sleeper yeh mine also works and sometimes not, wierd! like if i push it all the way in sometimes it decides...nope not doing that, so take it out and its just sat on top JUST, and then it decides it does want to do the bubbles!!!(even though its not properly fixed in!) But in general i still find the bubbles quite loud, maybe cos its hitting the back of the tank i dunno.

Fluval still going strong after about a year though, bought mine £20 posted at the time

PS/ i guess no-one knows what the bubble dooz-ma-jig is called lol

When I had that filter (still do but not in use any more) I positioned it just a little way below the surface so after about a weeks evaporation, it started blowing bubbles. So when there are bubbles you do a water change...

As of the original question, from what I understand air bubbles don't do a whole lot of good, but if you want it for decoration, just figure out what air stones you want and get any pump capable of pumping enough.

uhmm from my experiance with the air tube thing, the closer u put the internal filter towards the surface of the water for more bubbles it will come out "with the air tube"
and if u bring the filter deep engouth it won't blow out bubbles

I have a TETRATEC APS 400 twin output at the moment a bit on the noisy side, Also the diafram's have gone once already (only 4 months old)So it's on ebay now!

I am just looking for somthing quite and reliable really to blow some bubbles!
