Greetings:

I recently received a Fish Tank a 30 gallon model. I purchased the Fluval Canister Filter Model 205 and this afternoon I completed putting it all together and running it. What I am concerned about is the presence of air in the output within the tank. I expected that I would encounter some air bubbles during the purging of the system but, the pump has been running for several hours and every so often a small amount of air bubbles is expelled from the output hose into the water. I'm beginning to wonder if there is some small leak in the intake system allowing air to be sucked into the pump system. If you have any suggestions, recommendations or tips... I would be most interested in reading them.

Ciao,

Don

When placinga new filter into your tank, or an existing filter being turned on again, it is wise to twist it different directions under the warer to expell any air pockets that are inside. This is if you have an internal filter.

The same sort of principal applies to an external filter, however you just have to turn the external unit outside the tank different directions to remove air pockets. Usually slanting the base 45 degrees either way does the trick. I give mine a hardy little wobble from time to time to check no air is trapped inside.

As long as you can't hear the propeller whirring away inside really loud you'll be ok with a few bubbles, over time they'll escape from inside.

Hope this helps,
James

Tilt the filter slightly to one side & give it a shake from time to time. this will help the air to get out.

also a acute bend in the inlet/outlet pipes can cause this sort of thing, too.
if the above does not work, you have a air leak! as its a Fluval, i would check all sealing rings. plus all mating edges for cracks.

is the filter new?
