Aggressive Hydra !

I have used the alcohol method on several occasions. I need to add several drops of the booze, I doubt it reaches a 1/4 teaspoon. The powders should become more like a thin paste before I mix in the tank water. I would say that the amount of vodka I put into the powder is less than the amount of ammonia I add to produce 3 ppm.

If you are nervous about using booze, then use the microwave method. But then you will have no reason to keep some of the dilution solution on hand.

Welp , I didn’t have to wage biological / chemical warfare on the creatures and that makes me happy and if past experience is applicable then I shouldn’t see Hydra again until I’m in my late 90’s . Whatever , I hope none of you guys ever have Hydra . What a nasty little thing they are !

For me, this has been a great thread for learning new approaches to an old enemy.

I admit, Hydra are interesting beasts. The main species that pops up in my fishroom now is a nuisance - small, pale and not predatory on fish. I had one years ago three times its size that even left sting marks on adult fish. I see a green one now, also very small to go with my mild mannered, not aggressively spreading pale ones. They're always present if they like the food, and freshly hatched brine shrimp feeds the big ones well. They don't thrive in my very soft tapwater though.

If those gangly, predatory $#$#$ arrive here again, I'll be better armed for killing them.
