Yesterday, I bought an African Butterfly Cichlid on the hoof as I have never seen these before and shop said they were non-aggressive and stay relatively small. It seems quite a skittish fish and I was wondering if it were a good mixer with its own kind?

Not interested in breeding them but would like to get another ... if it happened to be another male, will they squabble? They are quite difficult to sex!

Thanks.

Yeah they're pretty hard to sex. I had a breeding pair of them that i sold to Caz on here and she had a few problems with them and her Apisto's. They bullied them so had to be removed. Non the less though a very nice fish. :)

they are very skitish fish ive currently got a group of 6 and have to keep them in there own tank otherwise there too skitish .... ive breed them before in the past and always ate there fry if they were in with any other fish even dither fish .... just try and give them alot of hiding places

I purchased 2 more for the tank. They are hanging out together but all tend to go their seperate ways aswell. Eat everything, which is good.

Thanks for the replies.

Amazing colours!

i have one that i have hung on too but it diesnt really fit in with my tank with larger cichlids but it lives happy enought and doesn't really get hassled and it is always out, never hides or anything like that, i would be tempted to get a group of 6 if they sold them local. The breeding colours as shown above is stunning.
