Afras

my guess is that pic 1 was a male but is the subdominant one.

Size does not matter when it comes to dominant males i have 3 male zebra long pelvics and the biggest is the sub and the smallest almost half its size still colours up when he gets a chance.

Told you venting is easy :good:

If it's that easy I might have a try. I need to sort my Acei out and my zebra's. Hope it's as easy as stripping....the fish I mean :shifty:

It really is that easy i found it less scary than stripping, I have one of those torches that you can stick on your head it makes it so much easier although you may look a bit stupid if you get caught looking at fish's bits with a torch on your head especially if you have been caught stripping with a fish in your hand

You must either look quite the surgeon or a miner

No just stupid and girlfriend thinks I'm fish mad go figure

So if i have two males and one is the sub dominant male whats the other one then? he is never fully coloured up only when hes eating (but normally very pale purple) the sub dominant male is always full or nearly full colour when hes eating but never around the female.

Also if the sub dominant male is not allowed to show its breeding colours, how do i get them to breed :good:

cheers people

Sounds like there not quite old enough yet and when they are there is going to be problems there is a chance that 1 male afra could kill the other or stress it so much it dies same for the female she is going to get stressed by 1 male constantly chasing her i would take 1 male back and try to get another 2 females a 1m-3f is preferred for mbuna.
