A Tricky Question I Am Confusing Everybody With!

If you wanted you could always seperate them for a little while, thats what i'm going to do with my angels, or they might even be able to fend them off themselves

I would love to see some pics when you've got them

Personally the only time i think discus look good are in a species only tank, not my cuppa tea, rather use one as a coffee mat. :shifty:

With keyholes, i thought they were PH 7 to 8, so having lower end of 6 wouldnt be much use :/ But if you have experience of them in low PH, then i guess they are back to being an option! White fish on my black background will look good i think!
They're found from 6.0 to 8.0 (ish) in the wild, but only up to 8.0 because of brackish water, not because of hard freshwater. It is easiest to treat them as other South American blackwater fish for the purpose of keeping them as they will breed much better in soft water, but will grow well in a range of water types.
On the other hand, they don't really do "white" as a body colour much unless they are on white sand. On dark substrates, mine usually tend to be a golden grey colour with darker patches for keyhole.

Hi Rory,

Without wanting to be rude, I think you are going about this back-to-front.

If you want Discus, that's great, they are fantastic fish. But you have to set upn your tank (temps, water flow, tank mates etc) according to the needs of the Discus. Not the other way round.
The Discus are the main attraction of the tank, so set up your tank according to their needs, and everything else has to fit in with their requirements.

Just my 2p.

Thanks
Squidward.
