A Tricky Question I Am Confusing Everybody With!

Not sure about angels - heard to many stories of that theory going wrong - 50p coin sized angels being added, and soon they grow larger and eat all the cardinals! I think they are cool, but not willing to take that risk.

With keyholes, i thought they were PH 7 to 8, so having lower end of 6 wouldnt be much use :/ But if you have experience of them in low PH, then i guess they are back to being an option! White fish on my black background will look good i think!

I'll see how i get on with no pump! Just switched it off!

My ORIGINAL plans were cardinals and discus, so if that is still a possibility, then i am happy :)

And thanks for the discus link BTW, found 2 people selling discus up where i live whihc is great

I have seen a lot of people selling discus round there
If you do end up getting discus i would love to see some pics

TBH the discus are justs as likely to eat Cardinals as Angels are, if anything, my Discus were far more predatory than the angels (which were just gnarly tempered but ok in their the tank i had).

You DEFFINATELY dont want Silver Dollars  tbh they are one of those fish along with the silver sharks that i would love to see less of in the shops because people just dont appreciate how big they get, how much space they use aand quite how quickly they can eat plants!!

Why is your PH so low? What is your GH and KH? Im assuming you use tapwater? What are your other parameters? (amonia, nitrite, nitrate). Discus are fussy, still cichlids and fussy with tankmates andvery fussy with water parameters. Probably ok for your tank but people underestimate discus. They are cichlids and still aggressive.

Pearl Gouramis and Moonlight Gouramis are great :) Beautiful fish, less aggressive then the Opalines and Golds, less prone to illness and death like the Dwarf Gouramis and bigger than the Honey Gouramis.

Also the Hatchet Fish (the Silvers are larger than the Marbled) are great surface dwellers without being predatory like Panchax and butterfly fish.

Silver Dollars will eat tetras and other small fish when they get large, I have seen angel fish do the same also and but my angel fish at the moment leaves my tetras be, but then last week I heard a splashing, and found one of my neon tetras half out of my paradise fishes mouth, which I thought would leave them well alone.

I went to see the Discus tonight, they look amazing! I have switched off the flow...now the worry is temperature! I need to check what i can bump it up to for my plants, and if that goes well, i will take out a loan haha

What sort of discus are you thinking of getting?

I am getting a couple delivered tomorrow :) can't wait

granted there is a risk that the discus could eat cardinals....but this is one of the most common set ups i see with discus, and its what i have my heart set on. My cardinals are large enough to avoid the mouths of these fish i think.

I'll be honest, the discus types confuse me so much!! I think these all fall into the albino category, though most of the ones i'd get are not monotone...

Big issue looks to be the temperature :( Just put up a post asking about it as i think that could maybe be the show stopper :( :(

Discus on offer are

Albino yellow crystals
Golden leopard snakeskin
Albino platinum (albino blue diamond)
Leopard spotted snakeskin

The leopard is going for £150, so going to pass on that one!

It's best to find out beforehand though, if you look at other breeders discus you can see what types of discus there are.

Well, IF all goes well with the feedback about the temperature, i will be getting a breeding pair, a female from a breeding pair, and then 3 others. But i have asked the guy to email me and remind me which ones are which! I will pay a lot more for the breeding pair, but sadly i wont get any use of their breeding ability as i have a planted tank with cardinals etc. Seems like i'm wasting my money a bit :/ But they are the best looking discus i have ever seen! By far!!
