I called the lfs and they said they do not test for phosphate. So I went in and they didn't have a phosphate test so I will have to find it online I guess. I already have very low nitrates in that tank and unfortunately I cannot afford any more plants (I have to buy them online and shipping is killing me). I'm going to get a phosphate test, and put in phos-zorb if needed, and I'm putting the light on a timer so that it's only on for around 3 hours at night (it'll get some natural light during the day).

It's quite possible the low nitrates are contributing to the cyano. I'd be interested to know your phosphate/nitrate ratio when you get your test kit. Good luck.

I ordered a test kit last night and went ahead and added some phos-zorb to my order since it was only $5 and my lfs charges $10 for it. If I don't need it I can unload it on ebay or something...
