8 Inch Green Terror And 12 Inch Oscar

Fantastic :) And the GT is ace too.

Your Jack looks like it may be more mottled than anything. Won't know for sure yet. My avatar currently was my Jack when he looks to have been similarly sized.

With your GT is the fin separation damage, or just how he is?

im not too sure about the GT dorsal.... ive looked on google pics to see other examples and there are others that look the same and others that dont have the seperation so im unsure if its damage or genetics  it doesnt look damaged if you know what i mean, if it was damage then its healed very very well.

my jack seems to look different every time i look at him. when i first got him he looked like a pale version of your pic then looked identical to your pic and now he has gone really blue and gatting chunky. one day he is quite dark at the rear and others he is just completely royal blue. i guess time will tell with him/her.

ill see if i can get the early pics posted to show how hw has progress for you :good:

With regards to your GT its similar to a tank full of Wild Oscars i saw in a zoo exhibit few years ago. They had a massive Amazon themed tank with Flowerhorns, Oscar, Arowana and even crocodiles swimming around in! But the Oscars all had fins with similar gaps in like your GT, with these it was natural for them. Could be something similar with yours i suppose.

I'm sure that dorsal fin is just a healed damaged part. If the original damage is such that the rays of the fin cannot join back together to heal then the edges will heal over leaving a gap like that.

after having a good look today i think alan is right it looks more like repaired damage rather than genetics :good:

the GT "sammy" is getting chased a bit by Keith and i now feel sorry for sammy. when i had the other cichlids keith wasnt so bad maybe because there were more fish to concentrate on rather than a single fish.

im gonna leave it a week then if its not working i might have to move the GT on as its not fair on him. it seems the bullying is reversal of the classic text book scenario people expected. keith is a giant though and shadows sammy who is half as tall as keith is. if i were sammy i would be worried too

Divider perhaps? Section them off at each end so they can see other, but not get anywhere near. Then after maybe a fortnight of looky but not touchy maybe they will be better chums. Also Keiths territory will be blocked, and thus lost?

Reminds me of my GT, minds his own business and will even take alot of 'chases' from other fish.
He does eventually get angry with it and strikes back and normally it isn't too pretty

exactly what my thinking above is based on, a GT will only take so much before it snaps,

A guy I know recently rehomed his 8" GT that turned on a pair of defensive 14" oscars that had recently spawned in his 7ft tank

i came home today from work to find a battered GT.... Keith must have caught up with him eventually!

he has now been removed into a tank of his own to recover but he doesnt look great

Keith has gone from one of the nicest fish to an evil dominant oscar

Sammy the GT didnt make it through the night im affraid  :rip:

the beating he got was obviously too much to pull through from. such a shame as he was a gorgeous fish too.

Sorry to hear that Matt.

As you already knew, and have just had it re-inforced to you, it can be difficult to introduce new tankmates to any large, fully mature cichlid in a relatively confined space. Sounds like for the future Keith will probably do best in a tank with no fish of any size that he views them as a potential challenge to his dominance.

Sorry to hear that Matt, really am gutted to see it hasnt worked out.
