8.0 Ppms Of Ammonia!?!?!?

Here is a thread done a while back with a reply from API about their test kits. From reading their response, I take it that they are good for the full time regarless of whether they are opened or not. Of course, they also say Stress Zyme aids in cycling which I dont believe so I guess you have to take everything a manufacturer says with a grain of salt.

It's not API , it's Doc Wellfish. Anyways, I checked the Ammonia and it is between 1.0 and 2.0 PPMS :good: I also checked Nitrites and they are 0 which kind of puzzles me, because I thought they would be presents in such high amounts of Ammonia. :dunno:

If the bacteria colony has been wiped out and there isn't any bacteria to process ammonia, then there wouldn't be any nitrite as it is the next step in the nitrogen cycle. You do need to keep an eye on nitrites though as soon you will have bacteria to process the ammonia and you will get nitrite at that time.

Just remember some medications can throw off your test kits and give you a false reading.

No meds are being used at this time.

Ahh okay cool.. well maybe not :p

Even though meds aren't being used at this moment, the meds are still in the tank in minute amounts.
