7ft Tank Ideas

I'll go with the idea that hasn't been mentioned. How about getting some north american natives? Sunfish would look very nice in there!

Wondering, because a 7ft tank is rather heavy. Might wanna work out how heavy it is.

Giant gourami? Maybe too big though, i hear they can grow up to 28 inches? but i dunno if they get to that in captivity or in the wild or both, one website says rarely get over 16 inches in captivity but i dunno how accurate that is, big barbs like have already been mentioned would be good, like torpedo barbs(too expensive i know) or maybe tinfoil barbs? 7 foot length? maybe silver sharks? big shoal of congo tetras? Green or red arowana wouldnt be too big i dont think, only problem is again the price lol. Never thought stocking such a massive tank could be so hard.

i would defo have some sort of knife fish! maybe a BGK or Clown.. if you buy one quite large (7") then he could almonst be a showpiece fish with silver dollars as the shoaling fish.. OR go completely Oddballs (+) Plecs... not sure kinda hard when you dont want cichlids lol but if you dont mind me saying i think neon tetras might get lost in a 7fter!

hope this helps!

Maybe a few gouramis, they look great, and aren't too expensive.Plus you can get a range of colours and sizes.

Congo tetras in a reasonable shoal would be nice I think. They're big enough not to be swallowed up by the tank but not so big as to dominate it. Dennison Barbs (Torpedos) would be awesone but I can appreciate the cost factor. They're £15 each in my lfs. I know you said no Cichlids but how about some angels? They're mostly upper layer so shouldn't harrass the plecs and in a tank that size they should have plenty of space to avoid conflict. A reasonable shoal of tiger barbs could be quite nice too, depending on your other choices ofcourse. I don't think they would bother the plecs.

Just some thoughts :)

Of course if it were me I'd have a huge shoal of rummynose tetras and some angels :) Then again I'd also have to plant it, tho I can appreciate that with having one 6ft planted you don't want another. You could always stock it with torpedo barbs a few at a time ... Start with half a dozen and add as funds allow ;)

I love angels too - but have some in both of my 6ft tanks (yes, there is a pair in my 180g with the blood parrots and sevs - but only because one of my others was picking on them, so they're having their hols and then moving back when bossy breeches has calmed down lol).

I am torn between barbs or silver dollars (I also love rummy noses so that's another one on the list of potentials already), but when I told hubby (and Kathy) I was thinking of silver dollars, they looked horrified, and said it would be a waste of a tank/boring. They said my water's perfect for discus and I should get them. But dont discus need super clean water, and aren't plecs a bad tank mate if that's the case? Must admit, the thought is growing on me, but I keep hearing horror stories of plecs latching onto discus and thinking best not to risk it, only to hear a plec owner telling me how brilliant they'd be in there lol. Pah - this is too hard!

However much I would love to have Polly, my tank isn't going to be ready to use for at least 6 weeks if not two months :(

I know, it's alright, unfortunate timing but never mind.
