I'm planning on getting a tank 6-8ft in length, but i don't really know any fish tank brands that do tanks this sort of size specifically in England. Could you recommend me some particular makes of such size tanks please :) ?

I have a 6ft one made by Seabray. I think most Whitehall garden centres stock them

I have a custom made ND Aquatics tank, very pleased with it.

Several others on here have tanks made by them as well.

+1 for nd . my 4x2x2 was made by nd , and now i wouldnt buy a tank anywhere else

yes its always housed tropicals , currently its home to my discus . i bought an arcadia light unit from warehouse aquatics , which if i remember rightly cost about 19 quid.

so u bought the large hood with the tank and fixed the light units, reflectors and bulbs to it?

the hood comes with the tank anyway , i havent bothered with reflectors etc as my demands for light is very low . the arcadia ultraseal fittings where the tubes physicly connect have got a kind of little plastic fppt on them so they stand in the top of the tank , around an inch off the glass

like so ( not the best pic i know)

oh i see, so from that photo there it is the hood with the lid hinged open?? therefore im assuming for tank maintanence and water changes the hood needs to be lifted fully off??? sorry for all the questions and hijacking the thread a little as im looking for a 6 foot aquarium and i just wish i could go look at one of nd aquariums ones thats all but cant.

Ditto for ND Aquatics. I'm currently about halfway through my 6 week wait for my tank i've ordered from them. I've been very impressed with them, especially over the phone where i gave him the exact measurements i need my tank to be. Also they don't come "standard" with a hood, its an optional extra, one which i chose not to get after hearing about ChilliPeppers and hamfists lids. I've bought a TetratecEX1200 seperate and an Hagen Glo x2 39W T5HO lights separate for my tank also.

Its cost effeective if you want a tank to a certain size and already have/will buy a separate light/filter elsewhere. I found their hoods to be too bulky and impractical. Other than that i've found them to be an excellent company to deal with - i'd highly recommend them!

things must of changed then verminator , because when i got mine if you ordered tank with cabinet the hood was included. kevin no the hood doesnt have to be completely lifted off for maintainence etc. simply open the hinged lid , and work away

edit: verminator i just double checked the site ALL tropical tanks come standard with

polished edges
cover glass
black or clear silicone
polystyrene
cabinet
hood

its the marine tanks that dont have hoods , as most marine users seem to favour luminaires

Thanks for all the replies everyone, i really appreciate it ^_^v .

I've recently moved to Southampton but all my fish are currently back at my old place (at the moment a neighbour is feeding them, while i come back once a week to clean the tanks). (Mainly) i have 3 5ft long 100gallon fish tanks (Rio 400's), but over the years i've grown tired of doing so many water changes on so many large fish tanks (i love fishkeeping, but these days it is becomming such a chore doing tank maintanence, i'm not enjoying the hobby as much as i could be). So now i wanna sell the old 5ft tanks and sort of downgrade (or upgrade depending on how you look at it) to either a 6ft long tank or a 7/8ft long fish tank (whatever the length, i'm looking at a tank that is 2ft high by 18inches/2ft wide).
Pretty much all of my fish are compatible with each other, and the ones which aren't i am rehoming with the big tanks.

I don't mind going down the custom made tank route, but if it takes a long time to get such a tank done then i'd prefer not to go down that route. I'm currently doing my new place up and am going to put the new tank in the sitting room- all i need to do is put a new flooring down (it currently has carpet but i am doing laminate flooring), upgrade the electrics & paint the walls. As i am already living in my new house i wanna get these things done ASAP (also because as long as the fish are down at the old place i will have to go down there to do regular waterchanges etc- as soon as the sitting room is redecorated and i have a new tank, then this will free up a lot of time for me and i will be able to sell my old tanks).

I really don't know Southampton that well yet (only been here 2weeks so far) so i'm not sure what LFS or garden centres are available to me here yet (although so far i've seen a Pets At Home in the area). If you could recommend anymore brands/companies which do large fish tanks then that would be super awesome ^_^v .
