Hey guys I am currently running a 60 litre cold water tank but will be going tropical after Christmas. I was just wondering what kind of fish would be suited and how many roughly in a 60 litre :)

What are the dimensions of the tank, and is your water hard or soft? From how far away will you mostly be viewing the tank? Are there any types of fish you'd particularly like?

43 x 33 x 62cm
And it will be viewed close up as my daughter loves being up close watching them, keeps her quiet for hours.
As it goes for fish I would like a dwarf udder and some sort of sucker fish or shrimp but I'm really after bright colours :)

Sorry may have wrote that wrong H:43 W:33 L:62

I really like Guppies and Platies as they are really bright and colourful - plus you can get lots of different varieties.
Make sure you get all male guppies though as they are usually brighter, and this way you won't have babies within a week! :)

If you want dwarf puffers (I assume that is what you meant by 'dwarf udders'?!) you'll be very limited with stocking; basically otocinclus or shrimps, but even those might not be safe, depending on the temperament of the puffer.

I'd be tempted to get something like a betta (great for kids, as they're very interactive), or a pair/trio of small gouramis (dwarfs or honeys) with a shoal of small tetras or rasboras (but check carefully before you buy any tetras, as some can be nippy) and some cherry shrimps.

Yes sorry I ment dwarf puffers ( autocorrect ) lol
As I am new to this I will have to google these fish :)

try getting a betta ith maybe 4 otoclinus catfish, they are amazing

They are lovely and, as I said, very interactive (they can certainly recognise the person who feeds them!) so they are great for kids :)

Just remember that they are very aggressive towards both their own species and anything that looks even remotely similar, so make sure you avoid anything with long fins, or similar behaviour; so no guppies or gouramis!

Otos, or tetras/rasboras make good tankmates, but shrimps can be a bit hit or miss; some bettas eat them, some leave them alone.

i'm currently doing a fish less cycle in my 60 ltr tank, would this be overstocked

10 x neon tetra
6 x khuli loach
4 x platys
1 x betta
1 x oto

cheers

Definately...the Khuli Loach require a MUCH bigger tank, Ottos prefer larger groups to see their more natural behaviour, but the other stocking seems ok.

Terry.

I have the same size tank and my stocking is 8 neons, 1 honey gourami, and 4 bronze cory and I intend to add 4 more neons soon.
