well some i can recommend are Synodontis petricola Synodontis eupterus and Synodontis multipunctatus havent had the other one you are talking about. keep us posted with what you choose for your fish.

Thanks! I am leaning towards the petricola. Right now I'm thinking about getting the cichlids from my LFS and then the synos from aquabid. I've got my eye on a few auctions.

For stocking, I am leaning towards the setup that dthoffsett first suggested, or some very close variation thereof.

I ended up deciding that I just couldn't pay the lfs prices :( It makes me sad b/c they are so awesome there. I really shouldn't feel guilty though, I just spent $300 re-stocking my 46g with them ;)

I went through aquabid and just bought these fish:
6 F1 Labidochromis sp. hongi island Auction
6 F1 Cynotilapia afra white top likoma Auction
6 zebra red top yellow chin OB lundu Auction

I know 18 fish will be WAY too much, but since there's no way to guarantee m/f, I went ahead and got the 6 and will re-sell or otherwise re-home the extras. I will also get some s. petricolas.

Nice fish and i'm pleased to report that the white top Afra are genuine - many C.Afra Likoma purchased are mis-sold and are actually P.Kingsizei.

Definitely good to know. This guy has a lot of auctions up on aquabid and all are african cichlids - like dog breeders, it seems to be a sign of quality when they stick to one area of expertise :p I also like it b/c he's not too far away, so the fish won't have to be shipped as far.

That's going to be a fabulous tank, can't wait to see pics once the fish are in and settled!

:good: :good: :good: :good: :good: :good: sounds like someone just went to the candy store! cant wait to see some pics. you will have a very nice looking tank.

Kid in a candy store - very appropriate   Aquabid is baaaaad for my PayPal acct :p

I will definitely post some pics when they get here and get settled in. I'm very excited :)

Oh, and I did go back to AB and got some synos - petricolas, as I'd planned :)

haha awesome. who did you buy them from? i think i looked over every seller 200 times before i made up my mind

Carolinacichilds. I figured with him being in North Carolina and my being in Georgia, they should get here quickly. I got the synos from jmtrops and he's in Tampa.

thats really funny. that was my second choice for a guy to get. i should have gone with him in the first place. i went with this other guy that had a cheaper price but got me on baggage etc.. fish got shipped to me in a blizzard haha... i was scared to death. i got the fish and the bag was ICE COLD. and yet the fish are swimming happily.. to this day i dont know how they lived. once again; GOOD CHOICE haha. :good:

Yeah, I can imagine what a blizzard would do - we sure don't have that problem here!

In fact, I was just coming to post a little update. The seller called and said that it's been SO hot that they can't ship right now - has to be under 95. I am going out of town next week, so I don't want him to ship any later in this week and then not be home to get them acclimated and settled in. So, I am going to email him when I get home at the end of the month and hopefully it'll be cooler then.

So, right now, I have my tiger barbs and my jewels in my 55g to keep it cycled and I have 5 <1" astatotilapia latifasciatis fry in my 28g to grow out a little. I found a seller on aquabid from not too far from here and got suckered into going and seeing their setup. :p They had an amazing setup, including the most beautiful blue peacocks and tank after tank after tank of angelfish fry growing out

That's too bad, but the summer is hit a miss for shipping fish. It's supposed to be over 100 here all week, ugh I hate summer. Hope you can get the fish soon. :good:
