350 Gallon Tank

...Pacu's are vegitarians and i dont know why people think they would kill everything. The bad thing about pacu's is that they get around 30 inches long. They grow really fast, eat alot, poop alot, and are very strong. You probably will need a bigger tank for the pacu, but in my opinion it isnt worth it. Just grow the pacu until you feel it is no longer comfortable in the tank, then give it to a store with a larger tank or eat it. VERY nice tank. You could probably do stingrays in there... So many fish you could put in there, look up some of the larger predatory catfish and others. Maybe peacock bass. That would actually look very nice stocked with a decent amount of peacock bass. There are just too many options to list... If that was my tank, i wouldnt have a stocking plan for it. I would just put fish that i find in it, if i go to a store and see a fish that is rare, id get it.

Also, its not just the size of the pacu that makes it unsutible for the tank, its because pacu's are very skitish. If you scared it one bit... it would dart all around the tank causing damage to itself, and the tank! I've heard of pacu's breaking filters and heaters from being startled. Imagen how much damage it could do when its 2ft long!

I would also recomend making a sump for a tank that size. Putting plants in the sump would help get rid of nitrates and stuff.

I'm glad someone out there realizes that pacus don't destroy all living things around them...mine is skittish, but not to the extreme...when it gets scared it will dart around but doesn't crash into anything (at least not yet) and it is back to normal within five seconds.

I won't eat any aquarium-raised fish, but I will certainly get rid of the pacu (won't release to the wild) if it gets too large for it to be comfortable in the tank.

Thank you for your suggestions...I will definitely look into stingrays, peacock bass, and predatory catfish.

If you want different odd fish I'd think of
Fire Eel
Tire Track
South American Lungfish
Ornate Bichir.
Gar?

Just one thing. I hope that Crayfish is friendly. They can be mean. Love the Pacu

oohohh *drools*this is the size tank i want when i have my own place! its stunning!

personally, i would add sand, loads of wood/slate and plants and fill it with looooads of community fish - just imaginge a 50 strong shoal of neons *dreams*

(i love small fish btw)

but i like this, lovely and clean looking!

Thanks for your kind words. I would say to those who have room and a sturdy floor (mine is a concrete slab) to just save up their money and get one. I had a choice to make: buy a real nice desktop computer or buy a nice aquarium and give some lucky fish a nice home...I chose the lattter.

Thanks for your suggestions. I really like the Bichir's I've seen in pictures though I know next to nothing about them (guess it's time to do some research)...

if u dont mind me asking how much did the tank alone cost u? and then add in the filters.

The tank was $2000...the filters were only $120 ($30 each), but the lights were very expensive (I'm sure I got robbed) they were about $90 each...times four of them makes their total $360 bucks. I built the stand myself for about $300. So, total, I'd say I have spent a little more than $2800...about the same price as a nice desktop computer or heavy-duty riding lawnmower. I don't feel that is too much to spend for something that provides so much peace and happiness.

thats awesome dude.

soon as my girlfriends out the shower ill be showing her too so she can kno what to expect lol.

how wide is it?

if its atleast 30" id get some rays.

think its motoros that could liove out there lives in that.

as for plants. think theyll be eaten so youll have to get fake plants like me.

i normally dont like them but youll need them tall and you dont have to wait for fake ones to grow.

96"Lx36"Wx24"H

I hope I can find some plants that the fish will leave alone, but you may be right about having to get fake ones. I presently have anubias barteri and anubias nana. Some of both varieties are being chewed up, while others are being left alone.

I'm not real wild about fish that cover themselves up with sand, so I don't think stingrays are for me.

Go For the Bichirs.

I love my senegal, but for your tank, I'd go with the ornate, whom gets bigger.
Or A Fire Eel. Many many people like them.

In a tank that size I know what i'd be doing.........
