I need help stocking and decorating this tank! See my signature for the fish already in the tank. For an idea of scale the pacu in the picture is 10" long. I built the stand myself and I waited until the tank arrive to build the canopy for it in case anybody was wondering...

I cant believe the pacu hasnt ripped everything to shreds yet. Amazinng tank though i like the stand. What about having a sump or external filter?

The tank came with slots for HOB filters, so I got some Emporers. I like the convenience and the effectiveness of the Emperors, too.

wow.

big tank! is ur stand opend any where? like do u have a door on the end of anything?

how in the heck is that pacu not ripping that gourami to bits and pieces?

decorating- lots of natural colored gravel, maybe some big pieces of wood in there, plants possibly? ah maybe im into natural tanks way to much

Wow.. thats really big....

I'm guessing the pacu and oscar didnt destroy the gouramis cuz of the sheer size of the tank.. i've always heard people say the bigger the tank.. the less aggression there will be.. but i dont know if that's true or not :S

Stocking and decorating would depend on what you wanna keep in the tank..

What fish Do you want to keep in this tank? community? cichlids? ur pick...

I'd say since you went ahead and bought a 350 gallon tank (WOW) that you are going to want to do live planting! First, check out lfs's for natural looking rocks. If they have nutrients for plants, all the better. But you're gonna have a heck of a time rinsing sand or gravle for 350 gallons of water... but if you went and bought that, you probably have time for it.

Next up. Live plants. you can really let them thrive in this space. plants along the side edges and patched around, or maybe the propular sand/wood combo. I myself perfer live plants.

The gourami has always been ignored by the other fish in its tank...the oscar, pacu and gourami were in a 95 gallon quarter cylinder tank for about six months with no problems at all...the gourami is very first fish I ever purchased about two years ago.

I've been keeping fish for only about two years now, and up 'til now have been worried about complicating things with live plants...you know just trying to keep fish alive is hard enough, though I've been really lucky with very few deaths. But, it is now time to join with others and put together a natural tank which of course includes live plants. My first attempt was getting some anubias nana plants which were attached to driftwood. That is what is near the center of the tank in the picture. They are very tough plants and can survive low light levels, so I've been able to keep them alive with no problems. I just do not want to have to do tons of pruning, but live plants are definitely in my future...

no, no openings...I assume you asked because that is where a non hang-on-back filter would sit?

I don't know about all pacus, but mine is a real pushover, at least so far it is...

I've done the gravel thing and realized after switching to sand in my other aquarium that I wasn't seeing the fish's natural behavior with gravel...for example, did you know that convicts will sit on the sand and twirl their fins to kick up the sand and then search for any food below? They never did that when I had gravel...

I like the idea of wood and plants, I will definitely do something along those lines...I want a natural tank also...but the oscar is hell on plants, I've heard, but with a lot of space, maybe it will leave them alone.

wow with a tank that big and that expensive, i would have gone for sting rays or an arowana or a peacock bass or a flowerhorn

good luck, ive heard pacus are not agressive, but thats only from one person, but i know that they grow huge

i think if your going to go with sand, maybe get a fire eel or tire track eel

good luck :)

That tank would look great with a few Red Arowanas. But considering their price it would be kind of crazy to buy them and take the chance of them dieing. So I would reccomend if you every want a Red Arowana in there be sure how to take REALLY GOOD CARE of it. But That tank would look great with some Cichlids

You can buy gravel that has already been cleaned.. You are really supposed to rinse it again, but I have just chucked it in, then used a gravel cleaner (python) so suck out any small pieces...

$25 for a 25 lb bag Canadian here is what I paid..

You should be able to get sand from your local pool store.. pool filter sand doesn't really need rinsed, and is a lot cheaper then gravel.. I quite like it!... I just dumped the sand in, and did some water changes to get the water clear..

Both times I had fish in the tank, and didn't have any deaths..

Severums might make good tankmates.. nice looking large colorful fish that isn't too aggressive.

oohohh *drools*this is the size tank i want when i have my own place! its stunning!

personally, i would add sand, loads of wood/slate and plants and fill it with looooads of community fish - just imaginge a 50 strong shoal of neons *dreams*

(i love small fish btw)

but i like this, lovely and clean looking!

...Pacu's are vegitarians and i dont know why people think they would kill everything. The bad thing about pacu's is that they get around 30 inches long. They grow really fast, eat alot, poop alot, and are very strong. You probably will need a bigger tank for the pacu, but in my opinion it isnt worth it. Just grow the pacu until you feel it is no longer comfortable in the tank, then give it to a store with a larger tank or eat it. VERY nice tank. You could probably do stingrays in there... So many fish you could put in there, look up some of the larger predatory catfish and others. Maybe peacock bass. That would actually look very nice stocked with a decent amount of peacock bass. There are just too many options to list... If that was my tank, i wouldnt have a stocking plan for it. I would just put fish that i find in it, if i go to a store and see a fish that is rare, id get it.

Also, its not just the size of the pacu that makes it unsutible for the tank, its because pacu's are very skitish. If you scared it one bit... it would dart all around the tank causing damage to itself, and the tank! I've heard of pacu's breaking filters and heaters from being startled. Imagen how much damage it could do when its 2ft long!

I would also recomend making a sump for a tank that size. Putting plants in the sump would help get rid of nitrates and stuff.
