Hello:

I received a 26 gallon bowed aquarium kit as a gift, and would like to start a saltwater aquarium. I'm a newbie, but I've had good success with my 10 gallon fresh water tank in the past so I'm reasonably optimistic.

Also included in the kit was a stand, the "Tetratec PF150" combination filter/heater and a matching hood with 15W fluorescent light.

Is this kit too small for saltwater?

Are the dimensions (24L, 18W, 21H) not ideal for saltwater due to the depth?

Are their some fish or invertibrates that will not be fit for my aquarium? I'd like an aquarium with a combination of each.

From what I've read on this site over the last two days, it sounds as if this is not the ideal setup for saltwater.

The cost was around $300, and I have the receipt so I can return the kit. I'd like my keep my cost under $500 not counting fish and the stand. I have plenty of room, so space is not a problem. Any suggestions? :/

thanks

what do you plan on keeping? when you say inverts,do you mean shrimps,
crabs, etc, if so then yes, that set-up should be o.k.but if you want corals,
anenomes, then you will need much more including live rock/live sand,
much stronger lighting, possibly a better filter. I have not heard of that filter,
but if you plan on keeping just 2-3 smaller, hardier fish, and maybe a
shrimp(like a cleaner shrimp) then that size tank should be fine.
