250+ Babies

Omg! Excited all over again!
I just came home to find 250+ (what I think are) firemouth babies in my tank

Good for you.... That is 20% of the battle won. Now comes the task of rearing them...

If they are already swimming around, they must be at least 3 or 4 days old (wrigglers before they swim)....

The parents should be around them constantly (guarding them from the other fish).... if not, I'd suggest removing them (by syphoning) and rearing seperately)..... and their survival is also dependant on what other fish you have in your tank....

I now have the fry living in a 5G tank until I win another tank on ebay (hopefully sometime within the next week)

The parents were defending them well but I dont trust the other fish in the tank so I got them out.... They were already free swimming so im guessing they are about a week old now

I really dont know what I did....
I didnt even know if I had males or females... I just looked in the tank a few days ago and seen a dark looking "cloud" so I put the lights on and there were all my babies

Just checking, what filtration is being run in that fry tank?

The tank that the fry are pictured in isnt the one they live in.... thats just the small tank i put them in to take a pic when collecting them out of the tank....
I currently have a Fluval U2 (i think thats what it is anyway)

you'll prob want to cover the filter with a pair of tights so it doesnt suck in the fry

Remember to wash them a few times first so the dont leech anything into your water! Also when you put the tights over you will have to space it away from the filter housing or the filter will just suck the fry against the tights and the tights will get dirty quite quick. Good luck with the fry!
