2025 MLB

Nice to have Cleveland finally back home! :) Cleveland won 6-4 against the Yankees. and are 6-1 at home. This is the start of their longest home stand.

A good win but I'm a it concerned about the bull pen as they are giving up runs that just didn't happen a year ago.....

Three game series between Cleveland and the Yankees... Currently 2-0 in favor of Cleveland.
Headline!
Good pitching beats torpedo bats! ;)
In two games Cleveland has only allowed 5 runs to the Yankees!
Nice to finally be playing at home where Cleveland is now 7-1. :)
Cleveland has now taken first place in their division. :)

Learned something during today's Cleveland game. I've mentioned before that Clase, closing pitcher, has not been himself. Seems he is having 'discomfort' in his shoulder. Quit pitching him or it is likely to end up like starter ace Shane Bieber. In 2022 Shane had discomfort in his throwing elbow yet they allowed him to keep going. In 2023 he missed half the season. In 2024 he was out after two starts and is still not back after elbow surgery.

Granted in that it is not always the coaching that is at fault in such things as most players are going to insist they can play but, especially with a pitcher, you just can't allow the player to go out there with ANY issue with a joint in the pitching arm.

Hey, just thought that I'd mention this. If you just want to watch baseball check out:
I subscribe for just Cleveland so I can watch all their games but they have a "Free Game Of The Day" thing. I believe you still have to create an account for MLB but you get a free game every day. I don't know if this is valid outside of the U.S but it should work in, at least, Canada as Canada has an MLB team.

What a game for a new guy playing for Cleveland!

Daniel Schneemann is starting the game due to the regular 3rd baseman, Jose Ramirez tweaking his ankle the day before., Jose could have played saying that the ankle was just a little sore with no actual damage. Still Cleveland benched Jose for the game to be safe and I agree with the decision as it is a long season and Jose is VERY important both on the field and at the plate.

So enter Daniel Schneemann, in his first season as to being on the opening day roster, replacing Jose. 8th inning and Cleveland is down 3-0. Daniel Schneemann comes up and hits a homer to put Cleveland on the board, now down 3-1. Now there are 2 outs in the 9th and Cleveland has the bases loaded. Once again Daniel Schneemann comes to the plate and hits a grand slam to win the game 5-3. With his solo homer in the 8th and the grand slam he accounted for all 5 Cleveland runs. What a game for a guy that seems to have finally made it and a story to to tell grand kids. ;) He has been around for a while but never quite made it but just may have found a home in Cleveland with their superior couching.

Of course Daniel Schneemann is not going to replace Jose at 3rd but he can also play outfield and all infield positions. It is quite possible that he may become a very important utility player and I'm happy for his current success. :)

Until today I didn't realize just how good Cleveland pitching was doing. Their pitching has done a whole lot better than their current 32-26 record. The problem hasn't been pitching but hitting in the clutch. As of today, when they score 4 runs or better their record is 26-6. That indicates really good pitching. They are still 6 games behind Detroit but Detroit is currently playing exceptional ball but they will eventually fall off. Every team tends to have a span when things just don't work but Detroit has yet to see this. What a strong division! If the season ended today the division would send three teams to the playoffs for the second straight year.

The Red Sox swept the Yankees 3 games to O. Red Sox have won 7 of their last 8 games. How bout that!

The stars were aligned badly for both NY teams this weekend, They both got swept in a series for the first time this season at the same time.

I would not worry too much about the Yankees- they will have a few players coming back that do matter.

The New York Yankees have been waiting a long time for Giancarlo Stanton to return to the lineup in 2025. And for the first time since his injury, it appears he’s on the verge of being back on the roster.

According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, the superstar slugger is set to compete in his fourth rehab game, and is just about set to return to the MLB roster.
and
Gil (lat) is at least 10 days away from facing hitters and probably won't return until after the All-Star break, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Gil resumed throwing off a mound in late May and continues to progress in his return from a right lat strain. However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that the right-handed starter won't face hitters for 10-to-14 days, which suggests that Gil won't be able to return to the big club's rotation before the All-Star break. Given that he hasn't seen game action at all this season, Gil will almost certainly requite a minor-league rehab stint before he's activated from the injured list.
And there are a few more getting close. And don't let the 3 game loss to Boston fool you.
Yanks have scored the 3rd most runs in baseball so far.
Yanks have the second highest On Base % and Slugging (just .004 behind the Dodgers) and OPS )just .005 behind Dodgers)
Tanks have 3 rd highest team batting average: Dodgers are .264, Phillies are .257 and Yankees are .256.
Despite and awful 3 days against Boston Judge is still tied for #1 in baseball in home runs, and #1 in average, OBP, SLG and OPS.

I don't understand what is going on with Cleveland. :dunno:

Pitching has been good but they just can't score. They are losing games 1-0 and 2-1 and have often had opportunities to score.

Last two games they won 7-5 and 10-6 so mayhaps the offense is waking up. The 10-6 win yesterday was due to a grand slam in the tenth inning.

Hah! Every heard of the Atlanta Braves? That's them but their pitching kinda stinks too. They lost Smith-Shawver and Schwellenbach to arm injurys, CY YOUNG winner Chris sale to a rib injury. And their offense is the single most inconsistent in MLB, besides maybe the Rockies. check their record. I wanted to get that off my chest, I am a Braves fan, my fav player is Matt Olson (all star this year!), and I live in GA, but man, it is close to pure torture to sit down and watch an inning from this team!! They are going downhill!!!!

José Ramírez, Cleveland 3rd base is running the bases as per normal for him. He has stolen 27 bases and only caught 5 times.

Steven Kwan, left field, is also having another stellar season.

One thing I think Cleveland's offense needs is a regular and reliable cleanup hitter. Kwan and Ramírez get on base a lot but you NEED that 4th batter to bring them home. In my opinion the 4 spot should lead the team in RBIs.

<edit>
Make that 28 stolen bases for Ramírez. ;) Two stolen bases in today's game. Correction... third stolen base for Ramírez today. The count is now 29. The thing with Ramírez is that he often gets intentionally walked as he is in the top echelon as to hitting. They walk him and he steals second so it is often a walk ends up as a double. Happily he signed a contract earlier that will go to the probable end of his career. It IS possible that, after his contract, he could continue as a DH but I have doubts he would do it as he loves being on the field.
