2 Filters, Only Want 1

Hi all! Sorry for all these questions!

I've got two filters in my current tank, how would I go about switching over to just one?
The one i'm taking out is this:

All that it has in it is a carbon pad, and a scrubber thing, that's all the media in it. How should I change to just my good filter?

Are they both cycled? If so you could risk just removing the one you don't want and then monitor your water and do good waterchanges if you did get an ammonia spike.

One is really bulky and loud, and it sits above the water level and messes up my hood. I'm always worried about water spilling over too! It's not worth the hassel!

if i were you, i would really try to fit at least SOME of the mature media from the one u are removing, into the remaining filter. better safe then sorry. just stuff it in there!

just think next week your filter stops working, what you gonna do, ........... you could tranfer the media and get the old one going until you sort something more permanent out

I would have thought that by removing a filter you will be removing a percentage of the bacteria which will then have to regrow on the remaining filter? If so, be careful that you do not cause a mini cycle.

you ARE removing bacteria. Thats why i would try to at least shove 1/2 of it into the remaining filter.
