150G Stocking

I went swallow aquatics today and was really tempted by a pair of tapajo geos for £13 but i managed to resist. They had some nice golds sevs aswell 4 for £18. They had a tank with about 8 nics in there but they where all just plane browny sort of colour they must have been a good 3" long. Is it just they are still young? or are they just bad quality?

Which Swallow was that? I am after a couple more Geos. How big are they?
East harling. They had 2 that must have been about 2-3" and they said they had a few more out the back. They where selling 4 for £18 or something like that. But dont buy to many i want some left for once i get my tank set up.

Any ideas other than silver dollars that would work as dithers? There going to need to be big no because of the shovelnose.
Flagtail prochilodulis can work. :)
I feed my lima shovelnose shrimp, worms, and tilipia.
Are they fairly common? i dont think ive ever seen any.
Sounds good. Alot of places say tilipia where do you get it from? will supermarkets sell it?

Ah cool  My little guy is only about an inch and a bit

Haha. They had a lovely pair in there big display tank they must have been atleast 6" and looked like they where about to spawn they where clearing a bit behind some wood. Some of the ones they had out the back might have been smaller he did say they had had them since fry.

Yeah he said my little guy was homebred, so must have been from those two I think :)

He said to me they only ever get ones in that have been home bred they dont order them in. I was really tempted by the 2 they could have gone in the 21G if i moved the corys and apisto but i thought i better wait until ive alteast got the tank up and running.

It depends. It some areas flagtails are common, in some their not. You will have to check with your local fish stores.
Yes supermarkets should have tilipia.

Has anyone used a Fluval E 300w? I saw them at my lfs and they looks good and ive always found fluval a good make.

They were probably all male, only the females get the beautiful blue/orange colouring.

As for the fluval E series, I used to run one on a 125g tank, good heaters.

Ill maybe try one then. The only thing that puts me of is dont you have to adjust the temp by moving that stick bit at the top? so couldnt a fish knock into it and fry the tank?

No they couldnt knock it, its not a stick, you have to physically pull/push it to make it take the temp up or down, each push will adjust it 1/2 degree up or down, it gets you a digital read out to what its set to and the current tank temp, with a red light if the temp goes too high or it stays green if the temp is correct, Ive had one in with large Oscars and even they cant move it.

Fair enough i think ill give it a go then. The digital screen and the case was what made me think about them.

I have two, and while I like Fluval, I wouldn't recommend them. I know I don't have a conventional sized tank, but I found their 'low flow' warning annoying, especially when there was a powerhead blowing almost straight on the b%gger  They seem to have sorted themselves out now though, but my opinion is they are too sensitive, and allow the temp to go over or even under sometimes. Just get the bog standard 300w heaters  A lot cheaper!
