Im getting a 150G/5'x2x2 tank next weekend. Im going to divide 30G/1foot of for a trio of apisto and the BN fry. Would this stocking work for the 120G/4x2x2 section
pair sevs (not sure between red spot and rotkeil)
4 tapajos geos
4 BNs
and i was think a pair of cichlids but not sure what type. Would T Bar cichlids work? any other suggestions?
:good:

Geophagus Juruapri would look cool.
Port Acaras would also look nice.
If you wanted to do charcins, silverdollars would be perfect. If you wanted a fancier characin a flagtail prochidolis would look very nice and keep the glass free of alage.

I'd stick with the tapajos geos instead of Jurupari's mainly as the jurupari's grow rather bigger, and with two sevs and 4 geos and 4 BN's (if all adult) that is enough stock for a 4x2x2 IMO.

BTW, I thought a 5x2x2 is nearer 130 Gallon

Fair enough. Its going to have a 21G sump aswell if that makes any difference. Its 150USG or 125UKG sorry should have said.

Yeah looks good to me - If you wanted some of the Satanopercas (the Jurupari are actually Satanoperca Jurupari now rather than geos ) but yeh if you wanted some satans you would be best of with S.Auticeps, my favorite of the group and also the smallest growing with adult sizes depending on variant, genes and gender ranging from between 6-8 inches but the red heads would do very nice in there though.

IMO you could probs add one more mid sized cichlid in there like some kind of acara type or a even a group of cupid cichlids. And also probably some schoolers as well, Im a fan of headstanders, spotted or lipstick headstanders would fit in there pretty well. Emporer tetras would be nice or any of the disk tetras. Some pictus cats I bet would be pretty cool in there as well.

Thanks i think ill stick with the red heads. If i dropped the geos down to 3 would a pair of acara work?
I quite like the lipstick head standers ill have to look into them. How many do you think i could have?

With the headstanders I have 8 at the moment with a view to keeping 5 once they grow to adult size and Im hoping to end up with a tank the size of yours atm with similar fish. But see if you can find them first they are quite rare - if you see some annostomus in a shop look at the caudiel pinicle where the tail meets the body if the middle stripe goes straight to the tail its the larger annostomus annostomus but if it makes like a rounded crescent shape before the tail its annostomus ternetzi which is the one you want. If you cant find them go for the spotted ones :)

I would keep the geos at 4 simply because they work best in groups - and if you want some multiple acaras look at something like a group of Krobia, I really like Krobia sp. Rio Xingu aka sp. Red Cheek have a search for them you might be able to find them with a bit of searching around shops and clubs etc. There are other smaller less common acaras that would work in a similar way with these other fish you are wanting. But I would perhaps try and stay smaller than things like blue acaras - maybe not sure see what others say.

Thanks so
pair sevs (not sure between red spot and rotkeil)
8? headstanders
4 tapajos geos
4 BNs
pair of smaller acara ill have to see what i can get first.
:good:

I would go with 6 headstanders and rotkeil sevs :)

Ok so
pair rotkeil sevs
6 headstanders
4 tapajos geos
4 BNs
pair of smaller acara

But im not sure i might drop the geos and go for a bigger pair of acara.

You could go for a group of Biotomeda (spelling) instead of the geophagus similar fish but smaller relatives dont get the red faces though. Worth pointing out that adults get a truly luminous blue all over them in squiggles and juvis are super cute.

Any particular Acaras your thinking of?

I tryed googling Biotomeda and nothing comes up not evan any suggestions. I like blue acara and im quite tempted by port acara after seeing pics of kaivalagi's.

sorry meant biotodoma aka cupid cichlids but there are more members of the genus that are quite different to the cupids.

Also just a thought but how about a thread finned acara? Ticks boxes with both acara types and geophagus haha, the sevs should be tough enough to handle them as well if you get a nasty one but Hamfist had some pretty calm ones recently.

Some of them look nice. Still not sure between the and the red heads.
Threadfins look nice but again not sure. Some of the pick on google look really nice but some dont look to great. What do you mean? if i get a nasty sev it should be tough enough to handle the acara. sorry ive probably misunderstood that.

there are a lot of posts on the net about nasty threadfinned acaras but very few positive ones but if I am honest most of the negative ones you see seem to be written by noivices that have added them to silly tank mixes with all sorts of unsuitable tank mates but they should be okay with Severums and also Biotodoma Wavereni are found in the same areas as the threafins and I have seen neumerous cases where people have done this biotope with good success but you should just keep one and try to get a female as they get shorter threads but otherwise look the same. When kept correctly threadfins will out show most geophagus with their attraction with lots of golds and blues on the body and lots of bright red on the fins.
