14.53 Uk Gal Tank

Yes it's the hexagonal tank and i think i found a solution just phoned a friend and he will make for me.

Okay. Sounds great. I think that it would be quite easy to construct a top for it. I would find it quite fun actually, but aslong as you have it. What is the surface area of the tank, and what is the heigth?

Height-20 1/2 inches.
Side to side across top-15 1/2 inches.
corner to corner across top-18 inches.

I would say that you could fit a pair of apistogramma in that tank. If you are still looking at dwarf cichlids, that is.

The cichlids I mentioned would be more peaceful than Kribs IMO but also I think 15g is a bit small for kribs.

Any of the dwarf cichlids I mentioned would work really nice with some pygmy cories. As for small plecs just go for bulldog plecs L187 quite cheap and common but avoid any other type of common plec even bristlenoses will get too big for that tank IMO. You could even do a small school as well.

Maybe something like
2 Redbreasted Acara (1m 1f)
6 Rummy nose tetras
6 Pygmy corys
1 Bulldog Plec

Wills

I've never really looked at the acra before. They look like nice fish. Are they pretty good community fish? Are they any good in numbers/shoaling? I have a tank with a few rainbows, pentazona barbs and black phantom tetras. Do you see any problems living with them? My ph is a little over 7 and the temp is high 70's.

Cheers,
Squid

Just to ask would a two spot cat fit in this tank? I've read on multiple sites that they grow to 1.5 inches and on others that they grow to 5 inches. I don't know which is true but not read any other lengths.

Heres the tank! :hyper:
I know i will need a bigger filter but i'm planning to switch my filter round as the 1 in my 2ft tank is bigger than this 1.

15 Gal hex tank.

Gonna get substrate and other things ASAP so i can cycle it properly.
It's not slanted it's the way the camera was.

Right need stocking ideas for this tank.
I'm not wanting to breed any fish in it as i already breed my guppies and don't really have money at the min to breed other fish. It will have sand substrate and natural looking decor like stones and caves. I would like a two spot catfish if 1 would fit in it so no fish small enough for it to eat. Colourful fish to liven it up abit not rummy nose tetras as i'm not to keen on them. Don't want anymore livebearers. Any help will be apreciated. Thanks

Just some small fish/inverts I can think of off the top of my head:

  • Cardinals/Neons (although not so good in a newly cycled tank)
  • Rasbora species (galaxy, harlequin, etc.)
  • Threadfin rainbows maybe, unsure whether the hexagonal shape would give them enough swimming space though...
  • Apistogramma (1m 2f) as suggested - males are beautiful in my opinion, however each to their own...
  • German Blue Ram, normal or balloon species
  • Cherry Red Shrimp
  • Cherry Barbs
  • Nerite Snails (Nice shell pattern, can't breed in freshwater and is quite active for a snail lol)
  • Small danio species (leopard or zebra)
  • Dwarf Gourami
  • White Cloud Mountain Minnows or WCMMs (bear in mind these guys like cooler, even room temperature tanks when looking at stocking)
  • Black or green neons - generally tend to be a bit hardier, if less colourful, than the regular species
  • Sparkling Gouramis (I love these little guys just because they're so small lol)

And my brain has exploded.

Obviously you would only be picking a couple off of there and you wouldn't want to mix certain species, but have a look and see what you think.

Hope that helps (if it doesn't then I don't know what will haha!)

Claire

Thanks that helps alot
I like the black neons not to keen on the green neons.
I also like the sparkling gourami.

The tank looks kind of skinny so I wouldnt put any active fish in there it also limits your choice as to what cichlids can work.

What are the dimensions?

Dimentions are on post #19 mate.

If you fancy the sparkling gouramis and the black neons then you could probably do 12 neons and 6 gouramis in a tank of that size. You could maybe stretch it a bit further and have a couple more if you wanted but it's up to you :)

I'm not really wanting to breed fish in it as i already breed my livebearers. Going to LFS on fri (finally) :hyper: so will see what they have and ask them about it as i will write the dimentions down and take them with me. Won't be buying fish on fri but will be getting alot of supplies.
