14.53 Uk Gal Tank

I understand what you mean totally about livebearers - the first few batches of fry are fun but then you end up over-run with them!

Did you get to the LFS today?

Went to LfS on fri they said it really was up to me and that without seeing a pic of the tank they couldn't really give me much advice because, i tryed to explain that it was a hexagon tank but kept getting it wrong and i was on a time limit. I also forgot to write the dimensions down

I think i might stick with dwarf cichlid species. What dwarf species would fit in my 15gal? Would dwarf puffers fit in it? Or african dwarf frogs? If puffers would fit then that would kind of solve my livebearers drops.

Bump.

I've read on most sites that dwarf puffers only get to 1-1.5 inch? Is this correct? Is there any other freshwater puffers that i could have in this tank?

Ok thats brill because i really love these little guys they look so cute looking at other peoples pics.

Any advice on how to look after dwarf puffers? I know they need heavily planted tanks and lots of things to keep them entertained but what water stats do they need? What temp do they need? Are they better with sand or gravel? What foods can i feed them? Snails, Guppy fry, Live bloodworms and other live foods? Sorry for so many questions i just want to know as much as i can so i can give them the best treatment.

Temperature 26-28oC, The usual water stats for NH3/4+, NO2, NO3 and the PH should be in the 6.5-7.5 ish range. Substrate is your preference, but I think sand is better, you can feed them small snails, daphnia, blood worms, black worms, banana worms, they rarely eat dry foods though.

Ok thanks for your quick response.

My natural PH from tap is 6.4 is this ok? This is what my guppies live in:

PH-6.4
Ammonia-0ppm
Nitrate-0ppm
Nitrite-20ppm

Feeding them your guppy fry would be great. You could have 3-4 puffers in that tank. But keep in mind that they love large water changes, so I would err on the side of 3 in that tank.

I was thinking more about having just 3 because a trio would look great in that tank.

Good idea. They need a lot of hiding spots and places to explore, or they will get very bored.

Thanks.

I know i really should mention this in my other post but it's to do with the 2ft tank aswell.
I also rescued a friends male betta before i got the guppies and had to do a fish-in cycle with that betta because i had to put it in the small 2.77 gal tank for a couple of days till my 2ft warmed up. The betta i rescued off her was a male veil tail betta and it had 7 diseases! It died after 2-3 weeks  Would i have been better leaving it in the 2.77 gal at room temperature or was it a good thing to put it in the 2ft and fish-in cycle it? I did treat it for these 7 diseases:

-White spot,
-Mouth rot,
-Fin/tail rot,
-Fungus,
-Gill flukes,
-Body flukes,
-Internal parasites.

She had kept it in these conditions:

A small 1 gal bowl with a fast flow filter, 1 plant and 1 ornament. She did a fish-in cycle without doing water changes, she DID NOT read anything about them before getting the fish. She got the tank, ornament, plant and fish on the same day then she set it up and put the fish in.
I was very shocked when she told me. To say the least i wanted to get the fish straight from her house and put it in my 2ft tank there and then but i had guppies at the time.
